Jed Levy

Jed Levy (born August 12, 1958 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania ) is an American jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , flute , composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Levy grew up in New Jersey and worked in the New York jazz scene since the 1980s; his mentor was Jaki Byard , with whom the first recordings were made in 1984. In the following years he played with musicians such as Don Patterson , Jack McDuff , Ron McClure , Mike Clark , as well as with Junior Mance , Eddie Henderson , Jack Walrath , the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Shirley Scott , Kevin Mahogany , Gene Bertoncini , Don Friedman , Cedar Walton , Curtis Fuller , Chico O'Farrill , Attila Zoller , Groove Holmes and Tom Harrell . With his own bands he made guest appearances in venues such as Sweet Basil , Blue Note , Birdland , Visiones and Zinc Bar and toured Japan; He also recorded a number of albums under his own name, mostly for SteepleChase Records .

Levy also wrote numerous compositions, recorded by The Headhunters, Don Friedman, Eddie Henderson and Mike Clark. He is currently (2019) leading a quartet that includes Phil Robson (guitar), Peter Slavov (bass) and Clarence Penn (drums). In the field of jazz, he was involved in 34 recording sessions between 1984 and 2018, including a. also with Peter Leitch , Hendrik Meurkens and with the Bill Mobley Big Band.
