Jens Wahl (born July 24, 1966 in Rostock ) is a former German soccer player .

Athletic career

Jens Wahl, who comes from the junior division of TSG Bau Rostock and was promoted to the first team in the second-class league in the 1984/85 season, made his debut in the GDR league on the third last match day after moving to Hansa Rostock in the summer of 1985 of the 1985/86 season . After his debut on matchday 24 against 1. FC Union Berlin, he also played the remaining two season games against BSG Wismut Aue and 1. FC Magdeburg . The relegation of the Ostseestädter was already sealed at the time of Wahl's debut, as Rostock was already hopelessly behind in the fight for relegation due to the poor goal difference after the 23rd match day.

In the following season Wahl developed into a regular player in the second division at Hansa and, thanks to a lead of 17 points over the second in season A, managed with his team to rise again. In the second season after their return to the league, the Hanseatic League took an excellent 4th place, which meant their entry into the European Cup . In the 1989/90 UEFA Cup it was already the end of the round after round 1, but the car locksmith had scored both Hansa goals in a 7-2 win against TJ Baník Ostrava OKD . With a 6th place in 1989/90 , the Rostock confirmed their good performance last year in the 14th field of the league.

The individually good performances in spring 1989 brought Jens Wahl into the GDR national team . On March 8, 1989 he made his debut against Greece in the team of coach Manfred Zapf . His debut in the 3-2 defeat in Athens , in which he extended the lead of the Greeks to 2-0 with his self-goal, ended after the first half and was at the same time an election farewell to the selection. The GDR football magazine fuwo with its editor-in-chief Jürgen Nöldner stated: "With the own goal and a missed chance from close range (ball behind the line?) An unfortunate debut for the long Rostock player." Interestingly, the debut of the then 22-year-old Hansa footballer followed in the U-21 team only after his first appearance in the A-Elf. In Hořovice he was defeated with the GDR offspring of the ČSSR on March 22, 1989 with 0-2.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Jens Wahl and Rostock were the last champions in East Germany in 1991 and qualified with his club for the 1st Bundesliga . In addition to the championship title, he was able to celebrate winning the FDGB Cup with Hansa in this last independent game year in the field of the former GDR . Wahl marked the winning goal in the 43rd minute of the 1-0 victory in the final over Eisenhüttenstadt-based FC Stahl . From the top floor of all-German football, however, the midfielder and his team were relegated to the second division after just one season . After the end of the following mammoth season he left Rostock and moved within the league to Chemnitzer FC , where he was under contract for three and a half years. After the relegation of the CFC in the summer of 1996 and half a year in the third-class regional football league , Wahl moved to FC St. Gallen for the second half of the 1996/97 season . Following his short stay in Switzerland, during which he was not used, the man from Mecklenburg hired Dynamo Dresden for three years . In 2000 Wahl ended his sporting career.
