João Pedro da Silva Pereira (born February 25, 1984 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese football player .
Career
In the club
Pereira learned to play football in the youth of Benfica Lisbon and made his debut on August 17, 2003 in a 0-0 draw against Boavista Porto with the professionals. In his debut season 2003/04 he played 25 games and was mostly used in midfield. In the following season 2004/05 Pereira was part of the Benfica team, which won the championship and played many games from the start until he fell out with coach Ronald Koeman and was relegated first to the bench and later to the B team. After he was loaned to Gil Vicente FC in 2006 and convinced, he signed a follow-up contract with the club from Barcelos . Now firmly anchored in the position of right-back, Pereira moved on to Sporting Braga after just a year before being signed by Sporting Lisbon in December 2009 for a transfer fee of three million euros .
For the season 2012/13 to Pereira joined the Spanish side Valencia on.
In January 2015, Pereira moved to the Bundesliga for Hannover 96 . He received a contract until the end of the 2014/15 season .
After his contract with Hannover 96 expired, Pereira returned to Sporting Lisbon on a free transfer . In January 2017, Pereira moved to Trabzonspor in Turkey .
In the national team
Pereira took Portugal at Under-19 Championship in 2003 , the U21 European Championship in 2004 and at the U21 European Championship in 2007 in part. He played a total of 28 games for the U21 team . In October 2010, he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time by then national coach Paulo Bento , whereupon he played his first international match in the European Championship qualifier against Denmark and took part as a regular in the European Championship 2012 and World Championship 2014 .
