Joel Broda (born November 24, 1989 in Yorkton , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Graz 99ers from the Austrian ice hockey league since August 2020 .
Career
Broda played for three different teams in the WHL between 2005 and 2010 , namely the Tri-City Americans , the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Calgary Hitmen .
In 2008 he was selected in the draft of the National Hockey League in the fifth round and a total of 144th place by the Washington Capitals .
He made a name for himself in the WHL as an accurate striker: In the 2008/09 season he scored 53 goals in 67 games in the points round and eleven goals in 18 playoff games. In the following season he proved his goal instinct and shot the hitmen with 52 hits in 89 encounters for the WHL championship.
In the summer of 2010, Broda was about to move to the Austrian first division club EC Red Bulls Salzburg , but then signed a three-year contract with the NHL club Minnesota Wild in July . Broda did not book an NHL game for Minnesota, but only collected game practice in farm teams, namely with the Houston Eros in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Bakersfield Condors and Orlando Solar Bears in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
After his contract with Minnesota Wild expired , he returned to Bakersfield and signed a contract with the Condors in August 2013. During the 2013/14 season Broda played temporarily on loan for the AHL clubs Oklahoma City Barons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers . For the 2014/15 season he moved to the Hershey Bears in the AHL.
After the 2013/14 season, he decided to continue his career in Europe and moved to South Tyrol for HC Bozen in August 2015 : Broda became the top scorer of the Füchse in his first season in the EBEL and scored 26 goals and 22 assists in 60 appearances . After his first year there was an internal transfer to EHC Linz , which Broda presented as a new addition in April 2016. For the EHC Linz he completed a total of 124 EBEL games.
In June 2019 he signed with HC Innsbruck .
