Johann Georg Geib
Johann Georg Geib (born September 9, 1739 in Staudernheim , † April 16, 1818 in Frankenthal (Pfalz) ) was a German organ builder .
life and work
His parents were the mayor Johann Adam Geib and Sophie Emmerich.
Johann Georg Geib married Louisa Karcher on September 14, 1764 in Piestorf (Alsace) (* August 11, 1743; † February 1, 1817). Their three children were born in Saarbrücken ; Maria Elisabeth (born November 12, 1767), Margaretha (born July 31, 1770 - † July 30, 1839 in Frankenthal) and Johann Georg (born June 14, 1772), known as Görg. Georg continued his father's workshop, but did not match his father's quality.
Geib probably received his training from the Stumm brothers in Sulzbach (Hunsrück) . His works resemble those of the Stumm workshop in terms of their disposition , prospectus shape , scale length and pipe construction. At the beginning of the 1760s he worked in Saarbrücken and moved to Frankenthal (Palatinate) in 1790 .
In 1776 Joh. Philipp Hartung made his journeyman's piece at Geib, the pedal wind chest as a sliding chest, for the Catholic. New Bamberg organ. Alongside the Stumm and Johann Michael Hartung , Geib is considered to be the most important organ builder in the Palatinate.
Bell founders also emerged from the family who cast bells after emigrating to the east (Bukovina, Galicia). Over the years, the members of the family emigrated to the USA, partly via England. A family member moved to Australia. The descendants of a single branch still live in Germany today, mostly in Hesse.
