Johann Georg Oestreich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Georg Oestreich (born February 2, 1770 in Oberbimbach ; † February 28, 1858 there ) was a German organ builder .

family

Johann Georg Oestreich was the eldest son of the organ builder Johann-Markus Oestreich (* 1738 in Oberbimbach; † 1833 there), probably the most important of the five generations of organ builders in the Oestreich family , from his second marriage to Agnes Schmitt (* 1746 in Oberbimbach) and a grandson of Jost (Jodocus) Oestreich (1715–1790), who appeared as the first organ builder in the family from 1745 at the latest.

In 1798 he married Margarete Faust (* 1776), with whom he had children Adam Joseph (* 1799), Regina (* 1800), Margarete (* 1801), Michael (* 1802), Katharina (* 1805) and Augustin (* 1807 ) would have. All three sons also became organ builders.

Act

Johann Georg Oestreich lived in Oberbimbach and founded the Oberbimbach branch of the family, while his younger brother Johann Adam Oestreich (born February 15, 1776 in Oberbimbach; † May 16, 1865 in Bachrain ) moved to nearby Bachrain and founded the Bachrain branch.

He mainly worked in the Fulda area , where he repaired many organs and also built around 20 new buildings. Its organs were built in a traditional, baroque style. While his father built his two manual works with a wide rococo front, Johann Georg put the main work and the upper work on top of each other on two levels, with the action for the upper work running through the two-part main work drawer . The pipes of the pedals stood behind it.

The majority of the organs created by him no longer exist. Organs (largely) preserved by him are in the Huguenot Church in Schöneberg near Hofgeismar (1810), in the Protestant parish church of St. Michael in Sondheim vor der Rhön (1819), in the Catholic parish church in Buttlar (1821) and in the former Pilgrimage church in Ober-Wegfurth (1838).
