from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Michael Keller the Younger (born June 16 or July 16, 1721 in Neckarsulm ; † August 11, 1794 ibid) was an architect , master builder of the Deutschordensballei Franken and master builder of the Free Imperial City of Schwäbisch Gmünd .

Life

As the son of the master builder Johann Michael Keller the Elder and nephew of the master builder of the Deutschordensballei Franconia Franz Keller , Johann Michael Keller the Younger also learned the trade of master builder. After Keller was probably brought to Schwäbisch Gmünd by the Teutonic Order , his building activities began there in 1753. In addition to countless secular buildings , he also built and renovated many sacred buildings . He came into contact with the master builder Balthasar Neumann during his apprenticeship . After his death, he was entrusted with work at the Neresheim Abbey several times.

Keller's work in Schwäbisch Gmünd is characterized, especially in the bourgeois secular buildings, by the tailoring of the baroque and rococo baroque and rococo construction to the bourgeois claims of the citizens of the imperial city. He often compensated for the restraint in decorating the houses with color, which is why names such as "Red House", "Yellow House" etc. came about in Gmünd. Another characteristic of his construction is that he mostly used existing foundations from previous buildings in his countless new buildings .
