Johann (Hans) Friedrich Heinrich von Hochstetter (born May 7, 1784 in Braunsberg , † August 24, 1867 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Hochstetter came from a family that had been raised to the imperial nobility on October 6, 1518 by Emperor Maximilian I. He was the son of Friedrich von Hochstetter and his wife Johanna Sophie, née Velhagen. The father was a Prussian colonel a. D. , most recently commander of the “von Larisch” infantry regiment .

Military career

Hochstetter visited the cadet house in Kulm and was employed on August 15, 1797 as a private corporal in his father's infantry regiment. There he was promoted to second lieutenant in mid-December 1801 and served as a battalion adjutant in 1805/06. In this capacity, Hochstetter took part in the battle near Halle (Saale) during the Fourth Coalition War and was made inactive after the Battle of Lübeck due to the Prussian defeat.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Hochstetter was transferred to the 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 3 in May 1809 . As prime lieutenant in 1812 he took part with this regiment during the Russian campaign in the battles near Tomosna, Eckau , Wollgund, Mesothen and in the attack on Friedrichstadt. In the wars of liberation he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his behavior in the storming of Wittenberg . Hochstetter fought at Luckau , Löwenberg, Goldberg, on the Katzbach and was slightly wounded as a staff captain at the crossing at Wartenburg . On April 10, 1815, he was promoted to captain and company commander . As such, Hochstetter was transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on December 27, 1816 on foot . With a patent from March 31, 1818, he became major and regular staff officer on March 30, 1818 . This was followed by a position as commander of the 1st battalion from March 30, 1829. In this capacity, Hochstetter was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1834 and on September 9, 1835 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. With his promotion to colonel, he was commissioned on March 30, 1836 to lead the Kaiser Franz Garde Grenadier Regiment . On October 17, 1836, he was appointed regiment commander and Hochstetter received the Order of St. Anne II. Class with diamonds on June 8, 1838 . Due to his poor health, he submitted his farewell several times . He was given the character of a major general on February 9, 1840, due to invalidity with the statutory pension .

Hochstetter married Johanna Bertha Behrendt (1805-1832) on October 14, 1822 in Berlin. She was the daughter of Hofrat Christian Behrendt. The marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter.
