Johannes Backus
Johannes Backus (born February 5, 1966 in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) ) is a general physician ( army ) of the Bundeswehr and the department head A in the medical service command of the Bundeswehr in Koblenz .
Military background
Training and first uses
Backus joined the Bundeswehr Medical Academy in Munich in 1987 as a medical officer candidate . From 1989 to 1996 he studied human medicine at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . He then continued his training as an assistant doctor at the Detmold Bundeswehr Hospital from 1996 to 1998 . This was followed from 1998 to 2000 as a troop doctor at the local medical center in Delmenhorst .
Service as a staff officer
From 2000 to 2002 Backus was deployed as a medical staff officer and staff officer S3 in the Air Mobile Forces Command , later in the Special Operations Division in Regensburg . This was followed by a transfer to Oldenburg, where he was brigade doctor for Airborne Brigade 31 from 2002 to 2005 . From 2005 to 2008, Backus was again in leadership responsibility as commander of the medical training regiment in Feldkirchen . From 2008 to 2011 he was employed as a consultant in the Federal Ministry of Defense at the management staff of the medical service in Bonn . From 2011 to 2013 Backus was employed as a division doctor, 1st Panzer Division in Hanover . This was followed by assignments as Head of Unit VII 1 in the Medical Service Command of the Bundeswehr in Koblenz and as Head of the Medical Support Center in Wilhelmshaven . From 2016 to 2018 Backus was the commander of the Rapid Rescue Forces Medical Service "Ostfriesland" (Kdo SES) in Leer . From 2018 to 2019 he was once again deployed as head of the special staff department in the medical service command of the Bundeswehr.
Service as a general
In April 2019, Backus was appointed as the successor to General Doctor Bruno Most , Head of Department A (Planning / Management / Control of Health Care) in the Bundeswehr Medical Service Command. In this post he was promoted to general physician in June 2020.
Backus is a specialist in general medicine . He has additional qualifications in sports and rescue medicine and as a senior emergency doctor (LNA) . He also has a degree in health economics from the EBS University of Economics and Law in Wiesbaden .

Backus is married and has two children.
