Hannes Bauer (2015)

Johannes "Hannes" Bauer (* July 22, 1954 in Halle (Saale) ; † May 6, 2016 in Berlin ) was, along with his brother Conny Bauer, one of the most outstanding European trombonists and composers of improvisation music and free jazz .

Life

Inspired by his older brother, Conny Bauer, who found his way through dance music to jazz as a teenager in Sonneberg , Hannes Bauer began studying trombone in East Berlin with Hartmut Behrsing , which he broke off. He then completed vocational training as a dance and entertainment musician in the GDR . From 1972 he played in groups around the baritone saxophonist / clarinetist Manfred Schulze , whose wind quintet he later belonged to (and led it after Schulze's health-related exit). From 1978 he belonged to Andy Altenfelder's quintet , from which the trio with Heiner Reinhardt and Christoph Winckel , which existed in the early 1980s, emerged . From 1979 Johannes Bauer devoted himself exclusively to jazz and improvised music. In 1981 he founded the quartet Doppelmoppel with his brother Konrad "Conny" Bauer , Uwe Kropinski and Helmut "Joe" Sachse .

Bauer lived in Berlin until his death.
