Johannes Thiemann (born February 9, 1994 in Trier ) is a German basketball player. It measures 2.05 meters and is used as a wing and inside player. Thiemann has been under contract with Bundesliga club Alba Berlin since July 2018 .

Player career

In the 2010/11 season he gained his first experience in the men's area and was used for the Regnitztal Baskets in the 1st Regionalliga Süd-Ost.

Thiemann played for TSV Breitengüßbach in the NBBL (U19 Bundesliga) between 2011 and 2013 and won the NBBL championship title with TSV in 2012.

From the 2011/12 season he was also part of the third division men's teams in Breitengüßbach. In 2013, Thiemann was appointed to the squad of the first division club Brose Baskets Bamberg and made six short appearances in the Bundesliga in the 2013/14 season and, thanks to a double license, also strengthened 1. FC Baunach in the third division, the 2. Bundesliga ProB . With Baunach he became Pro-B runner-up and was named one of the five best players of the season by the website Eurobasket.com and the player who has developed the best over the course of the season.

Even after Baunach's promotion to the second division ( 2nd Bundesliga ProA ), Thiemann commuted between the Baunach and Bamberg squads in the 2014/15 season.

According to the statistics, Thiemann was one of the best German players in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in the 2015/16 season and posted an average of 15.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 27 appearances. He also acted as Baunach's team captain. At the beginning of June 2016, Bundesliga club Ludwigsburg announced Thiemann's commitment. In the 2016/17 season, he posted an average of 8.3 points and 4.8 rebounds for Ludwigsburg in 37 Bundesliga appearances. At the beginning of February 2018, he tore a tendon in his right thigh and had to sit out for several months. He closed the 2017/18 season with a record of 19 Bundesliga appearances with an average of 10.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per match.

At the beginning of July 2018, Thiemann was signed by Alba Berlin . In April 2019 he was with the team in the final series of the European Cup competition Eurocup, but lost there to Valencia. With the Berliners he won the German cup competition and the German championship in the 2019/20 season, and at the end of June 2020 he won the German championship with the Berliners. In the championship year in the Bundesliga he achieved averages of 6.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per match.

National team

In August 2012 Thiemann took part with the German national team in the U18 European Championship in Latvia and Lithuania and was 14th of 16 participating countries with the selection of the German Basketball Federation , which meant relegation to the B group. In nine European Championship games he achieved an average of 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Thiemann was also there with the German national team at the U20 European Championship in July 2014. At the tournament in Greece he came to nine inserts and averages of 9.9 points and 4.1 rebounds.

As a student of economics at the Fernuniversität Hagen , he took part with the German national student team at the Universiade in South Korea in 2015 , where he won the silver medal.

At the end of July 2016, Thiemann made his first appearance for the senior national team in a friendly against Ukraine and scored eight points on his debut. In 2017 he was in the EM squad of the German team.
