John Edwards (racing driver)
John Michael Edwards (born March 11, 1991 in Louisville ) is an American racing driver .
Career
Like most motorsport athletes , Edwards began his career in karting , which he practiced from 2001 to 2004. He also made his formula racing debut in the Skip Barber Series in 2003 and won a race. This made him the youngest driver to ever win a monoposto race. After another year in the Skip Barber series, Edwards moved to Europe in 2005, where he initially only operated karting in Italy. After receiving the necessary license at the age of 14, he competed in the German Formula Renault , in which he finished 13th, and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . In 2006 Edwards contested his second season in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and he improved to 16th place overall. He also started in the Northern European Formula Renault and was fifth overall with a win.
In 2007 he returned to the USA and contested a season in Formula Atlantic for Forsythe Championship Racing . With a second place as the best result, he finished ninth overall at the end of the season. He was inferior to his team mate Robert Wickens , who was third. In 2008 Edwards moved to the Star Mazda Series and won the championship title of this series with four races. In 2009 the American moved back to Formula Atlantic and he contested his second season in this series for Newman Wachs Racing . Edwards won four races and won the championship ahead of Jonathan Summerton and Simona de Silvestro . Edwards and Summerton were tied at the end of the season and so the number of second places ultimately decided whether to win the championship.
