Act

Schmidt's university courses cover a wide spectrum of the history and theory of medicine , from the medical science of the ancient high cultures to the medicine of the 20th century, from basic anthropological and epistemological questions to the socio-economic perspectives of modern medical criticism. In his lectures at international congresses at home and abroad as well as in the annual Köthener summer courses in homeopathy history, the thematic focus is on the history and theory of homeopathy, since, according to Schmidt, the scientific dispute about this controversial healing method is particularly suitable, the relationship between To develop philosophy and medicine scientifically.

Schmidt's thesis is that a complex, multi-layered and centuries-old healing method such as homeopathy can only be adequately grasped in its diverse relationships through a multidimensional, multi-perspective approach, for which - beyond the natural sciences - the humanities , historical , social and cultural studies . In this way, consistent scientific preoccupation with a historically grown and often proven complementary healing art inevitably leads to a broadening of the horizon from which questions like “What is medicine?”, “What is health or healing?” Or “What is it Human? ”Should be put back and considered.
