Joseph Konrad von Bangold

Joseph Konrad von Bangold (born November 26, 1780 in Spalt , Franconia , † March 27, 1851 in Cannstatt ) was a Württemberg lieutenant general .

Life

Joseph Konrad von Bangold first studied at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen , where he joined the Corps Onoldia in 1798 . He switched to the University of Landshut and studied philosophy . He then studied at the Josephinum (Vienna) , where he was awarded a Dr. med. received his doctorate.

On April 30, 1803 he joined the Württemberg Army as a sub-lieutenant in the Stuttgart garrison . On November 5, 1806 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 1808 transferred to quartermaster staff. After his promotion to first lieutenant on January 6, 1809, he was adjutant in the army corps of Duke Wilhelm I in the 1809 campaign against Austria . On May 23, 1809 he was promoted to captain II class, on January 1, 1812 to captain I class and on September 17, 1812 to major . In Napoleon's Russian campaign in 1812 , he was Chief of the General Staff of the Württemberg troops in 1813, when they switched to the side of the Alliance during the Battle of Leipzig . On November 17, 1813, Bangold was promoted to lieutenant colonel and after the Battle of Brienne on February 8, 1814 to colonel .

In 1821 Bangold became adjutant to the King of Württemberg and head of the Secret War Chancellery . After his promotion to major general on 26 September 1822 he commanded the 3rd Infantry - Brigade . In 1828 he became governor of Heilbronn , in 1830 quartermaster general and in 1838, after being promoted to lieutenant general, commander of the 1st Infantry Division and governor of Stuttgart. In 1842 he was retired.

Politically, he emerged through numerous memoranda on defense issues, which are now in the Stuttgart State Archives . In addition, he wrote free religious writings after his retirement .
