Steenbek-Projensdorf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Steenbek-Projensdorf refers to the western part of the Kiel-Wik district in the northwest of Kiel , about five to ten kilometers from the city center.

history

Towards the end of the 18th century, the eponymous agricultural estate of Projensdorf , which today belongs to the municipality of Altenholz , was located between the villages of Wik and Suchsdorf . The Levensau River, which is easy to cross and which was expanded into the Eider Canal from 1777 to 1784, flowed north of Gut Projensdorf . The Rathmannsdorfer lock without bridges is located on the grounds of the Projensdorf estate . The Eiderkanal became in the following years through the Kiel Canalwhich is located in the middle of the Projensdorf estate. The entire estate was bought up by the sewer construction company. The manor house remained on the north side with around 90 hectares of land, which went back into private ownership. The land on the south side, especially the local recreation area Projensdorfer Gehölz , was acquired by the city of Kiel and incorporated into a municipality in 1909. The area of the Kiel-Wik district to the east of federal highway 503 was incorporated into Kiel as early as 1893 with 1,300 inhabitants.

In 1798 eight farmers who had previously been serfs in the Wik moved to the Kürberg, the hill on which the Lubinus Clinic is located, and at this point formed a new small village, which they called Steenbek. The name is a reference to a stream, the Steinbach, that flowed here. The southern edge of the Projensdorfer Gehege forms the historical border between Steenbek and Projensdorf.

The settlement of Steenbek-Projensdorf began in 1960 on such a large scale that the area took on a metropolitan character in the 1970s and 1980s.

The construction of the federal highway 503 in 1970 created a spatial separation between the western part - Steenbek / Projensdorf - and the eastern part of the Kiel-Wik district.

Steenbek-Projensdorf has a shopping center with a bank, formerly a travel agency, now a lottery shop, and restaurants. There are also old people's and student residences, churches and the Ernst-Barlach-Gymnasium founded in 1966, compare Guntram Altnöder . One of the most important new buildings in Steenbek (and Kiel) was the construction of the Lubinus Clinic in 1984, which is now an extensive medical cooperation center.

Boundaries of the Steenbek-Projensdorf local advisory council

Since 1981, Steenbek and Projensdorf have formed one of the 18 local advisory council districts of the city of Kiel, namely the local advisory council district 4 Steenbek-Projensdorf. Its border runs in the southwest between Holstein Stadium and Levensauer Hochbrücke along the federal highway 76 - southwest of it lies the local advisory council district Suchsdorf . In the north, the border runs along the Kiel Canal from the Levensau high bridge to the Holtenau high bridges . The eastern border forms the federal highway 503 between the Hochbrücke and Steenbeker Weg. The southeast border is the Projensdorfer Straße, the Westring up to the Bundesstraße 76. The Holstein Stadium and the Lubinus Clinic are located within the local advisory board.
