The Kallbach is an orographic right tributary of the Odenbach in the Rhineland-Palatinate districts of Donnersberg and Kusel .

The Kallbach rises in the natural area of Moschelhöhen of the North Palatinate mountainous region in the corridor of the same name at an altitude of 282  m above sea level. NHN at the northeastern foot of the Rothenberg ( 441.8  m ). Its source is in an agricultural zone two hundred meters south-southwest of the municipality Rockhausen belonging municipality souls .

The stream first flows in a north-west direction through grassland that is heavily overgrown with bushes and trees and then flows northwards between the slopes of Rothenberg on the left and Buchenberg ( 402.1  m ) on the right through a mixed beech forest that is under nature protection . About a hundred and fifty meters down the stream it leaves the forest and then, accompanied by sparse vegetation, runs north-northwest through fields and meadows. In the Bangert corridor it turns sharply to the west and then flows south of a small biotope with hawthorn sloe bushes through a protected reed bed .

He now changes the border from the Donnersbergkreis to the Kusel district. From there it follows the district road 43 in its further course until shortly before its confluence . The creek then squeezes between the Gänsberg ( 349.6  m ) in the north and the Rothenberg in the south, west-southwest through the deep Gänsdell valley . There he is accompanied by an ash forest near the shore , which soon changes into a mixed oak and beech forest .

Between the Bügenmühlerhof residential area in the south, which belongs to the local community of Niederkirchen, and the local community of Hefersweiler in the north, the Kallbach finally flows within the Hefersweiler district at an altitude of 233  m from the right into the Odenbach coming from the south-southeast .

Data

The Kallbach has a catchment area of ​​1.42 km² and drains through the Odenbach , Glan , Nahe and Rhine into the North Sea . The height difference from its source to its mouth is about 52 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 28.9 ‰ over a length of 1.8 km.

In the 13.6-hectare mixed beech forest west of souls grow beech trees , sessile oak , sycamore and Scots pines and in the herbaceous layer thrive there Hainrispengräser , Waldzwenken and White Luzulo . In the 0.4 ha biotope with hawthorn and sloe bushes, the blue-red dogwood , the black elder , the single-winged hawthorn and the common sloe as well as the blackberry and hazelnut bushes grow , as well as pedunculate oak , plum and sweet cherry trees .

The common meadowsweet , common forest cornice and reed can be found in the reed beds, which are just under 0.1 hectare in size, south of the hawthorn sloe bushes . To the west are the stream banks silver and break pastures , Common ash trees , alder , black poplar and black elder and hazelnut bushes and down the floor thrives the Gundermann and stinging nettle .

In the adjoining 1.0 hectare ash forest that accompanies the stream there are ash trees, common oaks, black alder and sycamore maples as well as gooseberry , red currant and hazelnut bushes. At the bottom of the floor, the great nettle, wood sorrel , mountain gold nettle, gundermann , stink cork's bill , true meadowsweet, great witch's herb and garlic mustard, as well as brown-stalked striped , chaffy-scaly worm and lady fern can unfold.
