Kantarkaya (kurd. Şorik or Şorika jêrîn / Aşağı Şorik) is a village in the Karlıova district of the Turkish province of Bingöl . Kantarkaya is located in Eastern Anatolia at 1870 m above sea level, about 11 km north of Karlıova.
In the list of village names in Ottoman script from the Turkish Ministry of the Interior from 1928 ( Son Teşkilât-ı Mülkiyede Köylerimizin Adları ), the village was called Şorik süfla (“lower Şorik”). The name Aşağışorik (also "lower Şorik") is registered with the land registry.
In 1985 there were 1,164 people in Kantarkaya. Between 1990 and 2000, the population almost halved. In 2009 the village had 550 inhabitants.
In April 1998, houses collapsed in an earthquake in Kantarkaya. Another 5.9 magnitude earthquake in March 2005 damaged numerous buildings. The primary school had to be rebuilt.
