Karl Wilhelm Ludwig von Kehler (born November 3, 1769 in Kammerau , district of Schweidnitz , † September 18, 1847 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the Erfurt fortress .

Life

His parents were the prince-bishop government and judiciary Gottfried Heinrich Anton Philipp Habakuk von Kehler (* January 12, 1743 - January 24, 1820) and his wife Marie Susanne, née Fritz von Adlersfeld (* November 9, 1750 - April 9 1789).

Military career

Kehler first attended the Knight's Academy in Liegnitz in 1783 and was employed on December 1, 1784 as a Junker in the Hussar Regiment "von Württemberg" of the Prussian Army . There he advanced to secondary lieutenant at the end of March 1792 and joined the newly formed hussar battalion "von Frankenberg" on June 20, 1792 . Kehler rose to the rank of staff assistant master by mid-February 1803 and took part in the battle near Schleiz and the battle of Jena during the Fourth Coalition War. He was captured by the surrender at Anklam.

After the Treaty of Tilsit , Kehler became adjutant to Colonel von Goetzen on January 6, 1808 . On February 18, 1809 he was promoted to Rittmeister and became an adjutant to Colonel von Zieten . In the same function, Kehler returned to Colonel von Goetzen on June 4, 1809. On May 10, 1810 he became a gendarmerie brigadier in the Groß-Strehlitz district . In this capacity promoted to major on June 29, 1811, Kehler was transferred to the Silesian Gendarmerie as a senior brigadier on October 27, 1812. In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he was again adjutant to General Goetzen on March 10, 1813. On March 9, 1814, he was transferred to the 1st Department for Cavalry Business of the 1st Department in the War Ministry . On 24 May 1815 he was charged with patent of 27 June 1815 Lieutenant Colonel , and after the war on March 30, 1818 Patent of 13 April 1818 Colonel promoted.

Kehler was transferred to Erfurt on October 13, 1823 as 2nd commandant and was appointed commandant of the fortress on April 5, 1824 . In 1825 he received the service cross and on January 18, 1833 the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. On March 20, 1834, Kehler received his departure with the character of major general and an annual pension of 1450 thalers. He died on September 18, 1847 in Berlin and was buried in the garrison cemetery on September 22, 1847 .

Kehler married on February 12, 1804 in Ansbach Friedrike Wilhelmine Charlotte von Kropff (* May 28, 1782, † December 6, 1858), from whom he divorced in 1814 due to mental illness. The following children were born from the marriage:

On January 24, 1815, Kehler married Amalie Wilhelmine Friederike Juliana Marie Beate Countess of Schwerin (* May 8, 1787; † February 12, 1843) from the Schweinsburg family in Berlin . She was the daughter of Heinrich Bogislav Dettlof Graf von Schwerin (June 10, 1743 - September 17, 1791) and his wife Anna Beate Luise, born von Ramin (September 10, 1752 - June 11, 1826). The couple had several children:
