The Karlsruher SC (officially: Karlsruher Sport-Club Mühlburg-Phönix e.V. ) is a football club from Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg . In 2001 the DFC Eggenstein joined the Karlsruher SC and formed the new women's football department. Between 2004 and 2007 the KSC played in the 2nd Bundesliga . The club currently plays in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.

prehistory

DFC Spöck

In 1990 the women's team became self-employed as DFC Spöck and moved to Eggenstein. Under this name she won the association cup in 1990/91 with DFB Cup participation in the following season. Furthermore, the DFC was in 1990/91 and 1991/92 champions of the Baden Association League, but failed in the promotion round to the Bundesliga.

DFC Eggenstein

As a consequence of the move, the name was changed to DFC Eggenstein in 1993. As DFC Eggenstein, the team won the association league championship in 1994/95, but failed in the promotion round to the Bundesliga . In 1996 the DFC became a founding member of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. There you had to leave the championship to the South Baden clubs SC Sand and especially SC Freiburg . Eggenstein also won the Association Cup in 1994/95 , 1997/98 and 2000/01 and qualified for the DFB Cup.

In 2001, the B-Juniors of DFC Eggenstein won the German championship by 1-0 in the final against series champion 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam .

Due to financial and organizational reasons, the DFV Eggenstein was dissolved in 2001 after eleven years of existence and the women's and junior teams joined the Karlsruher SC and thus founded the women's football department. With the DFV Eggenstein's association cup victory in the 2000/01 season, the team was allowed to take part in the 2001/02 DFB Cup as Karlsruher SC . In the first round they met the defending champion 1. FFC Frankfurt and were eliminated by a 0:20 defeat. At that time it was the biggest defeat in the cup. KSC currently shares this dubious title with FC Oberneuland , which lost in the 2003/04 DFB Cup with the same result against FFC Heike Rheine .

After they missed the opportunity to promotion in the first two seasons as third or second, the team qualified as champions for the promotion round to the newly introduced 2nd Bundesliga in the 2003/04 season . In this promotion round you could prevail and were a founding member of the 2nd Bundesliga. Despite this success, a large part of the team left the club together with the coach and the department head in January 2005 and joined the ASV Hagsfeld . The reason for this change were internal quarrels.

Despite this loss, they were able to secure their relegation in the 2004/05 season with ninth place, as they had the better goal difference compared with the tenth place SV Jungingen with the same points . Compared to the previous season, the southern season of the 2. Bundesliga in the 2005/06 season consisted of twelve teams and not eleven teams. At the end of the season, the Karlsruher took eleventh place and could not celebrate the league. Due to the relegation of VfL Sindelfingen from the first Bundesliga, the club's second team in the table in front of Karlsruher SC had to relegate from the second division and KSC held the class. In the DFB Cup, the KSC was able to achieve the best result this season. In the 2005/06 DFB Cup they defeated VfR Niederfell in the first round and FSV Viktoria Jägersburg in the second round . In the round of 16 they met SC Sand and had to win 3-1 out of the cup in the Baden derby.

In the following season, the KSC could not prevent relegation again. Although they were able to collect more points compared to the previous season with the 12 points, the team was again only able to occupy the 11th place and was relegated to the Regionalliga Süd . The direct resurgence was clearly missed with seventh place and the team could barely achieve relegation. In the second season in the Regionalliga Süd, the 2008/09 season, things went better in the league. At the end of the season, they finished second behind FC Bayern Munich II and thus missed promotion.

The good 2008/09 season was followed by a bad 2009/10 season . With 21 points the team finished eighth and had to relegate to the top league together with SC Regensburg and Eintracht Seekirch . The KSC started in the Oberliga Baden-Wuerttemberg and missed the direct rise with fourth place. The second season in the new league went better again and at the end of the season the KSC took second place behind TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II only because of the poorer goal difference. Due to the expansion of the Regionalliga Süd from 10 to 12 teams, the KSC is also promoted to the league. In the 2012/13 season , however, the KSC did not manage to stay in the league and was the last to be relegated together with SC Freiburg II .

After relegation, the team missed the renewed promotion through fifth place. After a long period of abstinence, the KSC will start again in the DFB Cup in the 2013/14 season because the team won the Baden Cup in the previous season with a 5-3 win against TSV Neckarau . In the first round, the club met the second division club VfL Bochum with a 3-6 defeat in the home stadium from the competition.

A year later they took third place behind SC Sand II and SC Freiburg II . In the 2015/16 season, as in the 2011/12 season, the league title was only missed due to the poorer goal difference. This time the KSC does not rise either. By winning the Baden Cup again in the preseason, the club started in the DFB-Pokal 2015/16 and met the first division club 1. FC Köln in the first round . With a 1: 4 defeat, the team was eliminated again in the first round. In addition, the team defended their Baden Cup victory with a 9-0 win against TSV Amicitia Viernheim .

In the first round of the DFB-Pokal 2016/17 the KSC met the first division club Borussia Mönchengladbach and were eliminated from the cup with a 5-1 defeat. In the league, the team again missed promotion to the regional league with fourth place. In the following season, too, the Karlsruhe women took fourth place. By winning the Baden Association Cup against TSV Amicitia Viernheim , KSC secured a place in the DFB Cup 2018/19 . In the first round of the DFB Cup, they met the regional league team Hegauer FV and were eliminated from the competition with a 1: 3 defeat.
