The Kastelberg nature reserve is located in the municipality of Ballrechte-Dottingen in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg .

Characteristics

The protected area was created on February 14, 1977 by ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council with the protected area number 3097. This ordinance was published in the Law Gazette for Baden-Württemberg on April 11, 1977 and then came into force. The CDDA code is 82046 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

location

The area is around 800 meters east of Dottingen. It includes the wooded summit area of the Kastelberg. The reserve is a wholly owned FFH area no. 8211-341 Markgräfler hills with slopes Black Forest and the Southern Black Forest , located in the natural area 201- Markgräfler hills within the geography main unit 20 Southern Upper Rhine lowlands .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, an essential protection purpose is the preservation of the Castellberg as a historically significant, striking elevation of the Black Forest foothills and as a location for rare woody and semi-arid grassland communities as well as extensive shrubbery areas that provide habitat for numerous bird and insect species.
