Berghauser mats is a conservation area in the natural space Markgraefler hills and is located at Schoenberg above Ebringen in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald both sides of the community access road to Wittnau . Almost all of it is located in the area of the municipality of Ebringen, a very small part in the east is also in the area of Wittnau and Sölden in Baden-Württemberg . It was established in 1996 and is the second nature reserve near Ehaben , along with the Sumser Garten nature reserve.

Characteristics

The area was designated as a nature reserve on September 24, 1996 and is managed by the Freiburg Regional Council under the protected area number 3.225. It has an area of 151 hectares . The following reasons are stated as the protective purpose:

  • Protection of the geologically and geomorphologically diverse area, which consists of layers of the Triassic, Jurassic and Tertiary.
  • Protection of the vegetation, which consists of semi-arid grass interspersed with bushes, orchards, lean farm meadows and pastures, wetlands and forests and other woody plants.
  • Protection as a habitat for rare and endangered animals and plants.

history

The nature reserve was set up on large parts of the former French training site Ehaben, which previously belonged to the Schlageter barracks . For this purpose, the municipality of Ebringen bought the land from the federal government with the help of the state of Baden-Württemberg. In addition, the adjacent land came into the tubs "upper Kienberg" "Eisenhut", "Long Hard", "Bergmatten" and "Gräblematten". Its use as a military training area in particular ensured that nature remained largely unaffected for a long time.

geology

The area at Schönberg is part of the foothills zone that formed when the Upper Rhine Rift valley subsided. The area also offers a glimpse into approximately 230 million years of geological history. You can find layers of red sandstone , shell limestone , Keuper up to layers from the lower and middle Jura , which have already been eroded in the neighboring Black Forest . This wealth of layers is also the reason for the diverse and different vegetation.

Flora and fauna

In the area there are areas with semi-arid grassland , orchards and lime beech forests , as special plants are orchids, such as the bald spur, the red and white forest bird , mushrooms such as the orange blossom clubfoot , the giant horsetail and the world's largest occurrence of Roger's golden hair moss . From the animal world, the red-backed killer , blackcap , green and gray woodpecker , smooth and grass snake as well as many rare insects such as the praying mantis and the stag beetle can be found here.

Berghauser Chapel of St. Trudpert

The village of Berghausen was south of the Kienbergsattel. A bull from Pope Lucius II from 1144/45 states that Berghausen had a parish church that was subject to a tithing of the St. Trudpert monastery . Since the seven farms that made up the village could hardly support a pastor, the two parishes Berghausen and Ehaben were merged in 1526. An unknown master builder built today's chapel in 1748. There is a small hermitage next to the chapel. For a long time the pilgrimage to Mary of the Good Council was of regional importance. The representation of Mary can be found in the left side altar. Since 1751 there has been a station trail with seven stations that begins at the cemetery in Ehaben. In 1979 the chapel was renovated outside and in 1984/85 inside. In 1989 the Jäger & Brommer organ workshop in Waldkirch installed a new organ in the baroque case. Today the chapel is often used for weddings and was the main location of the 2012 film Jesus Loves Me .
