The Humbrühl-Rohrmatten is a nature reserve (NSG) north of Freiburg - Waltershofen with a size of approx. 26 hectares , of which 21 hectares in Freiburg, district Waltershofen. It is also located in the districts of the municipalities of Gottenheim , with approx. 3 hectares, and Umkirch , with approx. 2 hectares. The central element is a coherent, larger wetland area with the surrounding meadows and forest on the Humbrühl, Rohrmatten and Kirchmatten tubs.
The nature reserve is a mosaic of different types of biotope, such as fresh and moist oat meadows (lean forms), wet cabbage thistle meadows, reed-covered wet fallow and reed areas with standing and flowing water, wet forests; FFH-LRT ( Fauna-Flora-Habitat-Guideline Living Space Type) Lean flatland hay meadows and lime-rich fens, FFH species Helmet-Azurjungfer and Great Fire Butterfly . In the meantime, more than 100 bird species have been identified, including 35 reed bunting and water rail breeding there and 26 dragonfly species in the area.
The origin of the nature reserve was created in 1980 by the Freiburg group of NABU - at that time still the "German Association for Bird Protection" - which bought a 1.5 hectare area on a former moor location in the Waltershofener Gewann "Humbrühl" and maintains it to this day. Currently, over 15 hectares have been acquired by NABU and additional areas have been leased. Maintenance also includes enriching the biotope situation by converting the arable land and creating new ponds , ponds , hedges and an orchard .
