geography
The hill is located in the area and boundaries of the Freiburg district of Sankt Georgen in the Freiburg Bay natural area in Baden-Württemberg. The area extends to the southeast with an extension of 350 m by 150 m. It borders immediately to the south on the K 9853 district road leading to Opfingen. The Freiburg Rieselfeld nature reserve is located immediately to the north.
Characteristics
The Honigbuck was designated as a nature reserve by decree on December 10, 1963 and is listed under the protected area number 3.066 at the Freiburg Regional Council. It has an area of 7.5 hectares and is classified in IUCN Category IV, a biotope and species protection area. The WDPA ID is 81932 and corresponds to the European CDDA code and the EUNIS number.
geology
The wooded, approximately 13-meter-high Honigbuck was created geologically like the Tuniberg , the Nimberg with the Marchhügel and the Lehener Berg as an island-like clod as a result of the subsidence of the Upper Rhine Rift . It consists of the main roe rock formation , a subdivision of the Brown Jurassic with a limestone ridge that has been covered with a top layer of loess .
The geological background shows that the popular name Hunnenbuck stems from the false assumption that this hill is an artificial embankment (e.g. grave mound).
Flora and fauna
In the moss forest, the occurrence of the individual deciduous tree species varies , depending on the location and the soil and its moisture, wetness and dryness. A different picture emerges on the Honigbuck due to the geological peculiarity with its limestone soil. Almost every deciduous tree species is represented here, there are a total of 11 species. The tall winter linden trees deserve special mention here , which are excellent sources of nectar for bees during the flowering period due to their high sugar content and therefore gave the Buck its name. Equally noteworthy are the common oaks and hornbeams in this location . There are all three native species of maple as the field maple ( Acer campestre ), the Norway maple ( Acer platanoides ) and sycamore ( Acer pseudoplatanus before), and ash trees , houses and field elm . In the Mooswald, the greatest specialty of the Honigbuck is one of the mightiest white elms .
In the shrub layer are u. a. Worth mentioning are the red dogwood , the privet , the eelcoat and the hawthorn . Due to the calcareous soil, numerous spring flowers thrive here, such as B. the Märzenbecher , which is particularly protected under the Federal Species Protection Ordinance , the blue star , which is rarely found in the forests of the southern Upper Rhine, and the arum , and also the wild garlic . The white forest hyacinth from the orchid family, the large two-leaf , the purple thing and the Turk's Union are also represented.
