Kawno (Malechowo)

Kawno (German Kaunow ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community Malechowo ( Malchow ) in the district of Sławno ( Schlawe ).

Geographical location

The village of Kawno is located at the intersection of Landesstraße 6 ( Europastraße 28 ) Stettin - Danzig (former Reichsstraße 2 ) with the connecting road Sieciemin ( Zitzmin ) - Dąbrowa ( Damerow ). It is ten kilometers to Malechowo, the administrative center of the municipality, and the district town of Sławno ( Schlawe ) is 22 kilometers away. The nearest train station is Wiekowo ( Alt Wiek ) on the Stargard Szczeciński – Gdańsk railway line .

The Góra Górka ( Gurkenberg ), located south of the main road, is part of the village and is 83 meters high and below which two streams arise that flow into the Grabowa ( Grabow ) and the Polnica ( Pollnitz ).

history

Kaunow is a young settlement that was only established in the 19th century. Since then, the place - on the grounds of an estate of 250 hectares - has been connected to the municipality of Panknin (Pękanino), three kilometers away , and until 1945 belonged to its administrative district in the district of Schlawe i. Pom. in the administrative district of Köslin . Kaunow was also oriented towards Panknin in terms of civil registration.

After 1945 the place became part of the Gmina Malechowo in the powiat Sławieński of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship (until 1998 Köslin Voivodeship ).

Kaunow was parish in the Protestant parish of Damerow (today in Polish: Dąbrowa) until 1945 and belonged to the church district Rügenwalde of the church province of Pomerania in the church of the Old Prussian Union .

Today the place is mostly Catholic . The rectory in Koszalin ( Köslin ) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg (i.e. Lutheran) Church in Poland is responsible for the Protestant church members living here .

Kaunow's children attended school in Panknin until 1945 .
