Grabowo (German Martinshagen , also: Alt Martinshagen ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community Malechowo ( Malchow ) in the district of Sławno ( Schlawe ).
Geographical location
The small farming village of Grabowo is located 19 kilometers southwest of the district town of Sławno on a side road, Gleźnowo ( Steinort ) on Voivodship Road 203 ( Koszalin ( Köslin ) - Darłowo ( Rügenwalde ) - Ustka ( Stolpmünde )) via Dobiesław ( Abtshagen ) and Wiekowo ( Alt Wieck) ) connects with Niemica ( Nemitz ) on Landesstraße 6 ( Europastraße 28 ) ( Stettin - Danzig ). The distance to the nearest railway station Wiekowo on the Stargard Szczeciński – Gdańsk railway line is four kilometers.
Grabowo is located in the Grabowa ( Grabow ) valley with its wide glacial valley on a slope that slopes down to the meadow. The neighboring municipalities are: in the west of the city and rural municipality of Sianów ( Zanow belonging) City Dąbrowa ( Damerow ) and the rural municipality Darłowo ( Rügenwalde ) associated Wiekowo ( Old Wieck ), in the north Przystawy ( Pirbstow ), to the east Niemica ( Nemitz ) and in the south Pękanino ( Panknin ), all three of which - like Grabowo - are part of Gmina Malechowo ( Malchow ).
Place name
Until 1945 Grabowo carried the name Martinshagen , earlier also: Martenshagen . The name probably goes back to the founder named Martin . This could have been a high cleric of the nearby Buckow monastery , but perhaps it was also Martinus , who is called in Stolp around 1274 and who is said to have owned Kuhtz (Polish: Kusice), five kilometers away.
After Neu Martinshagen (Grabówko) was founded, the village was called Alt Martinshagen . The prefix was then officially dropped, but it remained valid in everyday language until 1945.
history
In 1262, Bishop Hermann von Gleichen from Cammin donated 40 hooves to the Buckow monastery in Martinshagen . The village was probably founded at this time. In 1628 Martenshagen is mentioned in the Ampt Rügenwalde with 35 hooves, 1 cosset . In 1784 the village had: 8 farmers, 3 street farmers, 2 Büdner , 1 shepherd's cottage, good cattle breeding and 2 carp ponds.
In 1818 there were 137 people in Martinshagen. The population increased to 263 in 1871, and decreased to 240 by 1939.
Until 1945 Martinshagen belonged with Damerow (Dąbrowa), Panknin (Pękanino) and Zitzmin (Sieciemin) to the office of Panknin in the district of Schlawe i. Pom. in the administrative district of Köslin in the Prussian province of Pomerania . All four communities were also connected to the Panknin registry office .
On March 6, 1945, Russian troops occupied the village. In June 1947 it was taken over by the Poles, with which the expulsion of the German population began. Martinshagen received the Polish name Grabowo and today belongs to Gmina Malechowo ( Malchow ) in the Powiat Sławieński of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship (until 1998: Köslin Voivodeship ).
Local breakdown before 1945
Before 1945 there were two villages in the Martinshagen community:
- Oberwende (Polish: Uniedrożyn), two farmsteads on the road to Alt Wieck , two kilometers northwest of the village,
- Rußkuhlen (Rozkolno), one kilometer west of the village, on both sides of the road to Alt Wieck.
church
The inhabitants of Martinshagen were predominantly of the Protestant denomination until 1945 . The place belonged to the parish Damerow in the parish of Rügenwalde of the church of the Old Prussian Union . The last German clergyman was Pastor Hans Meinhof.
Today Grabowo is predominantly Catholic . The few Protestant church members are cared for by the parish office in Koszalin ( Köslin ) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg (i.e. Lutheran) Church in Poland .
school
Martinshagen had its own school until 1945. The building was built in the 19th century and had a classroom and a teacher's apartment. About 60 children recently attended school. The names of the last German headmasters before 1945 are Pahlow, Jordan and Büttner.
