Keaton Nankivil (born January 18, 1989 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Nankivil turned professional in 2011 and played in the German basketball league from 2011 to 2014 for the first division club ratiopharm Ulm, with whom he became German runner-up in 2012 and twice in a final of the German league cup .

Career

While at school in Madison, Nankivil was promoted to co- “Mr. Basketball "of the US state of Wisconsin. Then he began to study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the same place where he worked for the college team Badgers in the Big Ten Conference of the NCAA played. His teammates included Jon Leuer and Trévon Hughes , who would later also play as professionals in the German basketball league. In 2008 they won the Big Ten championship tournament and reached the last sixteen of the Sweet Sixteen in the national NCAA finals , in which they were subject to the Wildcats of Davidson College . Then they lost three times in a row in the first round of the Big Ten championship tournament. After two second-round defeats in the NCAA finals, the Badgers reached the second round with Nankivil 2011 once again, in which they were defeated by last year's runner-up Butler Bulldogs. The Bulldogs top scorer in Nankivil's last NCAA game was his future team-mate Matt Howard . Nankivil was not selected in the subsequent NBA draft 2011 of the highest endowed professional league NBA .

Instead, Nankivil began a professional career in Europe in 2011, where he signed a contract with the German first division club ratiopharm Ulm. In the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 , the Ulm team played for the first time under their new coach Thorsten Leibenath in the new ratiopharm arena and not only reached the championship play-offs for the first time in three years, but also achieved the best main round placement in their history on the use second place to move into the final series for the first time since 1998. However, there was no victory against the defending champion Brose Baskets , against whom they had also lost the semi-finals in the 2012 Beko BBL Cup . In the 2012/13 season the Ulm team took part in a ULEB European Cup competition for the first time and reached the quarter-finals in the 2012/13 Eurocup , which was lost to the eventual finalist Bilbao Basket . In the Beko BBL-Pokal 2013 they lost the final against hosts ALBA Berlin and in the championship play-offs of the basketball Bundesliga 2012/13 the semi-final series was lost in five games against the main round second EWE Baskets Oldenburg . Subsequently, among others, the two-time Bundesliga MVP John Bryant , who had also been appointed as the best center in the "All-Eurocup First Team" and had evidently developed a weakness for longer hair in Ulm with Nankivil, left the team and switched to the national competitor Bayern Munich . Nevertheless, it was enough to make it into the second round of the Eurocup 2013/14 , in which Hapoel Jerusalem was defeated. In the Beko BBL-Pokal 2014 in its own hall, the Ulm team defeated Bayern Munich in the semifinals, but in a new edition of the previous year's final defending champion ALBA Berlin, who defeated Ulm in the first play-off round of the 2013 Bundesliga basketball team , was defeated by Ulm in the first play-off round / 14 threw out of the championship race.

After his contract expired, Nankivil moved to Obradoiro CAB in Spain for the 2014/15 season .
