For the qualification for this competition, the positions of the Basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 after the first half of the season were decisive. In addition to the host of the Final Four tournament, the six best-placed teams in the first round table were also qualified. If the host was among the first six best-placed teams, the seventh-placed team was also qualified. The pairings were determined by lottery, which also decided on the home right in the qualifying round. The winner or advancement in the competition was determined in the knockout system within a regular basketball game. There was no second leg; if it was a draw after 40 minutes of regular playing time, extensions of five minutes each were played until a winner was determined at the end of an extension.
The hosts were Telekom Baskets from Bonn . Because of the poorer direct comparison after the first half of the season, the first division promoted s.Oliver Baskets could not qualify for the competition. On the Top Four weekend from March 24 to 25, 2012 in Bonn's Telekom Dome , last year's double winner Brose Baskets was able to defend his cup title.
