Kenneth Owen Morgan, Baron Morgan FBA (* 16th May 1934 ) is a historian , university professor and politician of the Labor Party , which since 2000 as Peer Life Member of the House of Lords is. Lord Morgan became an expert on the history of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and in particular the history of Wales and the Labor Party , through his numerous publications of specialist literature and biographies .

Life

After attending school, Morgan completed a degree in history and, after completing his studies, was a lecturer between 1965 and 1966 and, most recently, since 1965, senior lecturer in history at the University College of Swansea . In addition, he worked as a visiting fellow at the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) at Columbia University between 1962 and 1963 and as a visiting professor there in 1965 .

In the mid-1960s, Morgan became known to a wider public when he worked as an election reporter for the BBC's radio and television program between 1964 and 1979 . After finishing his work at the University College of Swansea, he was from 1966 to 1989 Fellow and Praelector for the history of modern times and political science at Queen's College of the University of Oxford and at the same time 1967 to 1989 Lecturer at the University of Oxford. He was also a member of the Council for Celtic Studies between 1972 and 2003 and has been a member of the Welsh Political Archive since 1985.

After completing his teaching activities at the University of Oxford, he was Vice Chancellor of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth from 1989 to 1995 , and also Senior Vice Chancellor of the University of Wales between 1993 and 1995 . During this time he was also a member of the Council of the National Library of Wales from 1989 to 1995 . He then returned to the University of Cambridge as a lecturer in 1995 and was also a research professor at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth between 1995 and 1999. In the following years he also took on several visiting professorships and was at the University of Cape Town in 1997, at the Witwatersrand University between 1997 and 2000 and at the University of Bristol in 2000 . He was also visiting lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin in 1994 and 1999 and has been an honorary professor at Swansea University since 1999 .

Morgan was raised to the nobility by a Letters patent dated June 12, 2000 as a life peer with the title Baron Morgan , of Aberdyfi in the County of Gwynedd . Shortly thereafter took place on 12 July 2000 its introduction ( Introduction ) as a member of the House of Lords . In the upper house it belongs to the faction of the Labor Party and was among others between 2001 and 2004. He has received several awards for his services in research, teaching and politics and was made an Honorary Fellow at Swansea University in 1985 and an Extraordinary Fellow at Jesus College, University of Oxford between 1991 and 1992 . He was also an Honorary Fellow of Queen's College, University of Oxford (1992), the University of Wales, Cardiff (1997), Trinity College Carmarthen (1998) and Oriel College, University of Oxford (2003).

In addition, Lord Morgan, who has been a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society since 1964 and the British Academy since 1983 , has been awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Wales (1997), the University of Glamorgan (1997) and the University of Greenwich (2004). He was also awarded the Honorary Bard of the Gorsedd of the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2008 and the Gold Medal of the Honorable Society of Cymmrodorion for Lifetime Achievement in 2009.
