history

Kirnberg is considered to be an expansion site, which started from Gebsattel in the 9th / 10th. Century. The place was named after the former mill, a grain mill ( kürnen ( mhd. ) = Grind , grind). Older names of the place are "Kürnberg", "Kürenberg" and "Kurenberg".

A Kirnberg castle was mentioned in a document in the first half of the 13th century, but it was destroyed at the beginning of the 15th century. The former tower hill was almost completely excavated by 1920 and no longer exists.

In the 13th century, the St. Maria and Michael Church was built, which was initially a branch of St. Laurentius (Gebsattel) . In 1330 it was separated from the mother church. In 1707 the parish had 200 members, in 1756 250 and currently 280 members.

During the Thirty Years War four of seven farms were deserted. It was not until 1657 that all farms were managed again.

In 1801 there were 10 subject families in the place, of which three had the Comburg monastery and seven the imperial city of Rothenburg as landlords .

With the community edict (early 19th century), Kirnberg was assigned to the Gebsattel tax district . A little later, the rural community Kirnberg was formed, to which the places Pleikartshof and Wildenhof belonged. It was subordinate to the regional court of Rothenburg in administration and jurisdiction . The Speierhof was re- municipalityed from Gastenfelden to Kirnberg before 1840 . In 1961, the municipality of Kirnberg had an area of 5,639 km². In the course of the regional reform , this was incorporated into Gebsattel on January 1, 1972.
