Klaus Schüler (politician)

Klaus A. Friedrich Schüler (born March 18, 1957 in Cologne ) is a former German politician ( CDU ). From March 2007 to June 2019 he was the federal executive director of the CDU.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1976, he studied history and English philology at the University of Cologne . In 1983 he passed the state examination, in 1986 he received his doctorate on the subject of " Logistics in the Russian campaign : the role of the railways in planning, preparing and carrying out the German attack on the Soviet Union up to the crisis off Moscow in the winter of 1941/42" .

From 1987 he was a consultant for fundamental questions and press work at the Senator for the Interior in Berlin , from 1989 a consultant for fundamental questions at the Governing Mayor of Berlin in the Senate Chancellery.

In 1989 he joined the CDU. From 1989 to the CDU election victory in Schleswig-Holstein in early 2005, he worked in the CDU's federal office in the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus , initially in Bonn , then in Berlin . Among other things, he was there under the former CDU federal manager Willi Hausmann office manager, head of the HR and administration department, head of the strategic planning department and commissioner for federal-state coordination in several Union election campaigns.

On April 27, 2005, he became State Secretary of Schleswig-Holstein and the federal state's representative. In this function, Schüler was also a deputy member of the German-French and German-Russian friendship groups in the Federal Council as well as a member of the ZDF television council .

Since 2007, Schüler has been a member of the RTL program committee.

From February 2009, Schüler took over the chairmanship of the Campaign Managers Committee of the International Democratic Union (IDU).

He is Roman Catholic , married and has one child.

On May 13, 2019, Schüler announced that he wanted to terminate his contract as CDU federal manager and move to the chemical company Lanxess .

On July 1, 2019, he finally gave up his party office. He was succeeded by Stefan Hennewig as Federal Managing Director.
