The Knebelsrod near Friedrichshausen in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is 443.1  m above sea level. NHN the highest point in the castle forest .

The Knebelsrod rises in the north of the castle forest. Its summit is 1.4 km southeast of Friedrichshausen , 2.5 km southwest of Haubern and 1.8 km northeast of Willersdorf , three districts of Frankenberg , and 2 km (as the crow flies ) west-northwest of Römershausen , a district of Haina .

Landesstraße  3073 runs over the northern high elevations of the elevation at a height of at most a little more than 400  m between Friedrichs- and Römershausen. While the summit region and southwest flank are used for agriculture, the remaining flanks are mostly forested.

The Knebelsrod is located in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessian mountain and sink country (No. 34) and in the main unit Burgwald (345) approximately on the border of the natural areas Northern Burgwald (345.1) in the south and Bottendorfer Flur (345.50) as part of the Frankenberger Oberland ( 345.5) in the north and Hauberner Hecke (345.510) as part of the Geismarer Platte (345.51) belonging to the Bottendorfer Flur in the east.

Rhine-Weser watershed

The Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the Knebelsrod : to the east, the landscape drops into the valley of the Römershausen brook flowing through Römershausen , whose water reaches the Rhine through the Schweinfe , Wohra , Ohm and Lahn rivers . Northwest it falls into the valley of the direction Frankenberg extending Eder -Zuflusses Gern Hauser stream from, northeast in that of the through Dainrode aspiring Eder-inflow Lengelbach and southwest in that the current flowing through Willersdorf Nemphe -Zuflusses Cold water ; the water of these three rivers ultimately reaches the Weser via the Eder and Fulda .

Opportunities for viewing and hiking

From the viewing scaffolding a little south of the Knebelsrod summit, the view falls into the Burgwald and to the west and north to the Rothaargebirge and Upland , to the northeast to the Kellerwald and to the west-southwest to the Lützlergebirge with the bagpipe . In addition, the nearby Willersdorf can be seen in the southwest. The 12 km long Knebelsrod extra tour of the Ederhöhenpfades , the Diemel-Eder-Weg and the Quernstweg lead past .
