Bonehauerstraße 34 in Hanover is the address of a building built in the early 1970s in the old town of the Lower Saxony state capital Hanover. The pre-built timber-framed - facade , however, is made up of beams with inscriptions of the previous building and the water mill of the manor in Eimbeckhausen together and goes back to the 16th century.

history

According to the inscriptions, the previous building was erected during the Thirty Years War in 1646, a decade after the sovereign of Braunschweig-Lüneburg and Prince of Calenberg , Duke Georg, declared the city of Hanover to be his residence in 1636 and this under his son and successor Christian Ludwig in 1646 was expanded to a garrison town with new fortifications .

The framework of the current house in the Knochenhauerstraße shows on a rack bar of the previous building in the middle of the 2nd floor, the initials M · C · L , the signature of the architect Cord Levecke : "M (aster) C (ord) L (evecke)" († April 1661 in Hanover), who was active in Hanover at this time. At the same time, the building is the only one proven by this master builder in the old town of Hanover.

One on the threshold beam employed of the 1st floor medallion with a house brand and the initial D points to a member of the family of Dören back and sets after the city archive Hannover stored lap registers from 1646 Hans von Dören close as owner.

Ralf Koenig's coffee-drinking Konrad has been drawing attention to Café Konrad since 1996 .

Around three centuries after its construction, the building from 1646 was badly damaged by the air raids on Hanover during World War II . In 1972, Marie Clausner, the client, had the current house rebuilt as a three-storey, gable - independent building by the architect Hans Thiermann . For the half-timbered facade, pieces of beams from the previous building were used on the first and second floors. The inscriptions, which are no longer completely preserved, were previously covered with plaster around 1900 , so that the tradition therefore only conveyed parts such as the master builder Leveke's mark with the ax and the square .

The sill beams of the gable do not come from Hanoverian provenance , but were supplemented by those of the watermill of the Eimbeckhausen manor, which was probably built after 1570 .

The inscriptions on the 1st and 2nd floors of the previous Hanover building from 1646 reproduce parts of the text from the Bible , for example from the Book of Isaiah , Chapter 8, Verse 20 and from the Book of Psalms , Chapter 37, Verse 25 . The inscription in the gable of the watermill in Eimbeckshausen, on the other hand, is written in Low German with excerpts from the Book of Psalms, Chapter 127, Verse 1 , followed by the proverb

"Help godt ut noth
Afgunst is grod"

and especially the year 1572 written in Roman numerals .

Since 1996, the figure of the coffee-drinking Konrad by the comic artist Ralf König has been pointing to the Café Konrad in the house .
