Local elections in Namibia 1998
The local elections in Namibia in 1998 were originally planned for December 2, 1997, but ultimately took place on February 16, 1998 due to an objection by SWAPO to the Namibian Higher Court .
The registration of voters took place in a first phase from mid-September to October 6, 1997, followed by a second registration phase in December 1997. A total of 188,302 voters registered.
The SWAPO and the Democratic Gym Alliance nominated candidates in all 45 local government areas. The voters could choose from 858 candidates, of which 52.9% were men.
The turnout was 33.7%, an absolute 50% lower than in the 1992 election.
