Regional council elections in Namibia 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2010 regional council elections in Namibia took place on November 26th and 27th, 2010 in parallel with the local elections after a postponement from 2009 to 2010 was adopted. All incumbents automatically remained in office until then. The regional councils in the 13 regions of Namibia were elected.

Election process

Voter registration

Voter registration took place between August 23 and September 6, 2010 with the help of 3500 election workers. Almost 1,180,925 voters registered here.

Election days

On the two election days, all 3,349 polling stations were open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. 12,000 electoral workers helped in them. There were 10 parties as well as six citizens' movements ( English Residents Association ) and six independent candidates for election.

Immediately after the polls closed, the counting of votes began. In each constituency, these were taken to verification offices for verification.

The election was monitored by the National Society for Human Rights (NGfM) and the umbrella organization of Namibian civil associations (NANGOF) .

Regional council elections

Nationwide, new elections were held in 106 of the 107 constituencies in the 13 regions . In a constituency, only one candidate stood, which is automatically considered elected.

The turnout was the lowest in the regional council elections. Only 38.63% of the registered voters went to the polls.

The SWAPO was again the winner of the elections and won 98 out of the 107 constituencies.
