Regional council elections in Namibia 1992

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The regional council elections in Namibia in 1992 took place from November 30th to December 2nd, 1992 together with the local elections. These were the first regional council elections in Namibia since the country gained independence in 1990. They were based on the Local Authority Act (Act 23, 1992), the Regional Council Act (Act 22, 1992) and the Electoral Act (Act 24, 1992).

The registration of the 534,437 voters took place between September 21 and October 27, 1992 in 95 constituencies . The turnout was 81.07%. The United Democratic Front of Namibia and the National Patriotic Front , however, considered this registration phase to be too short, as many Namibians did not have the necessary identity papers and turned to the Supreme Court . Her appeal was dismissed on November 18, 1992.
