Konrad Gottlob Ferdinand Freiherr von Zedlitz und Neukirch (born February 21, 1789 in Harpersdorf , Silesia , † February 5, 1869 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were the district administrator Kaspar Konrad Gottlob von Zedlitz and Neukirch (* 1761 - 7 June 1842) and his wife Eleonore Friederike, née Trützschler von Falkenstein (* 26 April 1768 - 26 March 1820) from the Zessel family. She was the daughter of the Polish-Saxon Major General Julius Ferdinand Trützschler von Falkenstein († 1775) and the Freiin Eleonore Elisabeth von Zedlitz and Wilkau (1731–1775). His father was Herr auf Nieder-Harpersdorf (sold in 1817) and a member of the Order of St. John . His sister Ernestine Charlotte Emilie (1799–1870) was married to Lieutenant General Philipp von Uttenhoven and his sister Friederike Elenore Henriette (1790–1863) was married to Major General August von Sommerfeld .

Career

Zedlitz got his education on the pedagogy in Halle . On August 1, 1806, he was employed as a junker in the “von Prittwitz” dragoon regiment of the Prussian army . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the battles near Strehlen , Breslau , Rothwaltersdorf and Glatz .

After the Treaty of Tilsit , Zedlitz became second lieutenant in the Silesian Cavalry of Prince Pletz on April 1, 1807 . On February 18, 1809 he came into the Guard Ulanen Regiment , with his patent being backdated to November 28, 1807 on April 11, 1810. Zedlitz was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on March 14, 1812, and in the run-up to the Wars of Liberation he came to the Light Guard Cavalry Regiment as a staff officer. During the war he fought in the battles near Dresden , Kulm , Leipzig , Brienne , La Rothiere , Paris and the battles near Kahla, Arcis-Sur-Aube , Vitry and Troyes. At Kahla he acquired the Iron Cross II. Class, at Arcis-Sur-Aube the Order of Saint Anna III. Class and Vitry the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class.

On March 29, 1815, Zedlitz joined the 8th Dragoon Regiment as a cavalry captain and squadron chief . This was followed by a use in the 8th Cuirassier Regiment from February 27, 1819 . With his promotion to major June 15, 1823, he was used as a regular staff officer . On March 30, 1839, he was commissioned to lead the 2nd Hussar Regiment and on January 28, 1840, Zedlitz was appointed regiment commander. In this capacity he was awarded the Lieutenant Colonel on September 10, 1840 and on September 12, 1841 with the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class. On April 7, 1842, he was appointed commander of the 4th Cuirassier Regiment and on March 22, 1842, he was promoted to colonel . In approval of his resignation request , Zedlitz was put up for disposal on March 8, 1845 with a pension .

Zedlitz was made a Knight of the Order of St. John on March 22, 1845 and awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lion on June 25, 1845 . On November 28, 1849, he got his farewell as a major general with pension. On the occasion of the coronation of King Wilhelm I , Zedlitz received the Order of the Red Eagle III on October 18, 1861. Class with a bow. He died on February 5, 1869 in Berlin and was buried on February 8, 1869 in the Invalidenfriedhof .

He married on November 14, 1820 in Nieder-Harpersdorf Marie Antoinette Luise Auguste von Sommerfeld (* April 8, 1792, † November 14, 1875), a daughter of Major August von Sommerfeld. The couple had several children:
