Konstantinos "Kostas" Charisis ( Greek Κωνσταντίνος "Κώστας" Χαρίσης , born November 12, 1979 in Athens ) is a Greek basketball player who is 2.12 m tall and is used in the center position. Among other things, he played basketball at the University of Southern California and in the first Greek basketball league .

Career

Konstantinos Charisis learned to play basketball in the youth department of the local basketball club in Psychiko . At the age of 19, for the current 1998/99 season, Charisis signed his first professional contract with the Papagou club, which was then playing in the first Greek basketball league. The newcomer was only used sporadically in the remaining games and ended his rookie season with an average of 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. At the end of that season, the Papagou club relegated to the A2 Ethniki . At that time, Charisis decided not to go with the descent and instead applied for a place at the University of Southern California . There he studied in the next four years Economics and played for the basketball team of the University, the USC Trojans , competing for the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship with. After completing his senior year , he was automatically enrolled in the NBA draft as a college graduate . In contrast to his compatriots Sofoklis Schortsanitis and Andreas Glyniadakis , Charisis remained undrafted. The 2003 draft , with players like LeBron James , Dwyane Wade , Chris Bosh , Carmelo Anthony , Kirk Hinrich and many more, is one of the most talented and strongest drafts in NBA history .

Charisis accepted an offer from Olympiacos and returned to Greece. In his second year as a professional, however, he barely made contact with the team. In any case, the Olympiakos club experienced a difficult 2003/04 season, which was accompanied by three coach changes and the club found itself eighth at the end of the season. Charisis was used in 8 of a possible 26 main round games and averaged 5.22 minutes per game. Then Charisis left Olympiakos and moved to the second division. There he stayed with Ilisiakos , who he had left after only one season to change to Olympiada Patron . The 2005/06 season ended the club from Patras in first place in the second division and rose for the first time in the club's history to the upper house. With that, Charisis played first class again from the 2006/07 season and also in the FIBA EuroCup Challenge competition . Right in the opening game of the new season, Olympiada faced local rivals Apollon . Although the newcomer lost his maiden game with 69:79 points, Charisis came with 12 points and 12 rebounds to his first double-double in the first Greek league. At Olympiada the center was part of the fixed rotation of the squad, was used in 25 of a possible 26 games and achieved a total of 169 points and 156 rebounds with an average playing time of 22.48 minutes. Charisis aroused renewed interest in other top teams in the league and the center moved to the 2007/08 season for the AEK basketball club . However, Charisis went through a similar season at the Athens club as it did at Olympiacos. The AEK club changed three coaches during the season, failed in the EuroCup competition in the qualifying round at Cholet Basket and finished seventh at the end of the season. With an average playing time of 9.44 minutes, Charisis got a total of 20 points in eight games.

Charisis moved to the Kolossos club . There he was now part of the fixed rotation of the squad, so that at the end of the 2008/09 season he signed a new contract that had tied him to the club for two more seasons. With again impressive performances on the floor, various league competitors continued to be interested in the center. In the 2010/11 season Charisis brought it to 240 points and 142 rebounds in a total of 26 games. Despite some of the better endowed contract offers, Charisis extended another season on the island. For the then new 2011/12 season, Rhodes' former coach Vasilis Frangias returned to the club's dugout. Frangias once led the club from the third to the first division and this time too he led the Kolossos to third place in the table at the end of the main round, the best result of the season so far in the club's history of the Kolossos. In the following playoffs, the club then got to do with EK Kavalas to captain Christoforos Stefanidis . They defeated them clearly in two games and in the semifinals the series champion Panathinaikos , who had defeated the Aris club in the first round, waited for Kolossos. Despite a win in the third game, the island club lost the series with 1: 3 games and met in the following small final for third place on the Panionios , who was defeated in the semifinals to the eventual champions Olympiakos with 0: 3 games. In a then very balanced series, Kolossos had home rights in the decisive fifth and final game. In this, the home team had to admit defeat with 63:73 points. While Charisis scored five points, four rebounds and one block in 15.20 minutes, Vasilis Kavvadas dominated the guests in 17.49 minutes, with 15 points and 7 rebounds. The best thrower of the game with 20 points was the American Jon Diebler who played his first and so far only season for the Panionios.

In the summer of 2012 Charisis was supposed to extend another time with the Kolossos, but could not agree on a new contract with the board of the association. He then received offers from the Apollon clubs, where he and Nikos Barlos were at the top of the club's wish list. The Ilisiakos, furthermore the Aris club was interested in him and Olympiakos had announced that they wanted to install Charisis as a backup, since the intended player Kavvadas did not get permission to change from his club Panionios. Charisis decided on the offer from Thessaloniki and signed a one-year contract there. For the 2012/13 season he came to a total of 27 stakes and brought it with an average time of 20.28 minutes, 159 points and 155 rebounds. Charisis then signed for two more seasons with Aris and left at the end of the 2014/15 season .

Also in the 2015/16 season , Charisis, now 36, was still a popular player. He had offers from the Kolossos club and the Koroivos club was also interested in the former Aris player. A bit of a surprise came the announcement that Charisis was about to move to the fourth division. The Ippokratis Kos had managed to win the center for themselves and Charisis switched to the Gamma Ethniki , had signed a one-year contract there and was used in 25 out of a possible 26 games. He scored 365 points and was the second most successful thrower in his team.
