Chapel of the Exaltation of the Cross (Holzmülheim)
The Roman Catholic Chapel of the Exaltation of the Cross in Nettersheim - Holzmülheim belongs to the Bouderath -Holzmülheim- Roderath parish in the diocese of Aachen , which has existed since 1804 and which today forms the community of the parishes of St. Hermann-Josef Steinfeld with several other parishes . The chapel bears the patronage Exaltation of the Cross and is a protected architectural monument .
During the restoration work in 1995, archaeologists discovered that a chapel must have stood on the site of the current church as early as 1150. A chapel was also mentioned in 1520 and 1582.
The two window axes of the main nave come from the chapel built in 1728. As early as 1850 it had become too small for the growing number of residents of Holzmülheim. In 1904 the narrow apse was torn down and in its place the building was expanded to include a transept and a choir in neo-Romanesque style. The architect was Franz Statz , the son of the Cologne cathedral builder Vincenz Statz . In 1995 the chapel was completely restored.
