Iklin (or L-Iklin ) is a relatively modern village in the middle of the island of Malta , between Birkirkara , Naxxar and Lija . Iklin was split off from the neighboring village of Lija in the recent past. A number of shopping opportunities have been created in the area. Iklin also has its own parish church, so it no longer depends on Lija in this respect either. First communion and confirmation are held in the Iklin chapel. Annual activities are: Jum l-Iklin (Iklin Day), parish house collections. There is a small chapel dedicated to St. Michael is consecrated. Its festival is celebrated on the Sunday before September 29th. This chapel was probably built in 1615 in place of an earlier chapel. Monsignor Petrus Dusina's report on his apostolic visit in 1575 describes the chapel in a very sad state.
Excavation sites
Although Iklin was only recently built (the first houses were built in 1958), there are still a few smaller places of archaeological relevance:
- a magalithic excavation site, perhaps the remains of a temple, was discovered in 1967 by the teenagers Din l-Art Ħelwa group of St. Aloysius College. However, the site has never been professionally scoured and studied.
- a second megalithic excavation site was explored in 1986 while work was being done on the Birkirkara bypass ; she is known as Tar-Raddiema . Two large megaliths and a few smaller ones are still visible but are often overlooked on the busy street. The ruins are dated to the time of the temple by the pottery shards found there.
- the foundation walls of a Roman country house were excavated in 1975 during construction work. This site was destroyed soon after it was excavated in the name of progress.
