Schmidatal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schmidatal is a landscape and small region in northern Lower Austria in the western Weinviertel . The only significant body of water in the region is the eponymous Schmida .

landscape

The Schmidatal begins in Roseldorf , for example , where it has hardly any valley character as a spacious, undulating arable and wine-growing area. It only gets this character shortly before Ziersdorf . The valley ends south of Großweikersdorf , immediately before the Schmida am Wagram enters the Tullner basin .

Small region

In 2000, the following five Lower Austrian municipalities merged to form the Schmidatal Landscape Park small region for the purpose of tourism and regional development :

2016 followed

These communities have a total of more than 11,000 inhabitants. The cooperation not only strives for economic goals, but also the regional identity “Schmidatal” should be strengthened (Schmidataler Körndlfest, Schmidataler Laufcup, Schmidataler Ferienspiele etc.).

Until then, there was not a great sense of togetherness between the individual villages and communities of the Schmidatal in the sense of feeling a common identity. One reason for this is the location of the Schmidatal in the respective outskirts of the catchment areas of the cities of Horn , Hollabrunn , Stockerau , Tulln and Krems , which has an administrative (district boundaries), economic (purchasing power outflow into the respective shopping centers) and school-related aspects (Catchment area of further education schools). Another reason is that there is no natural center of the Schmida valley. In the past, Ravelsbach had performed central functions for a significant part of the Schmidatal (e.g. district court, farmers' chamber, road maintenance department, polytechnic course, independent savings bank), but the place has largely lost these functions in recent decades. The establishment of the Schmidatal business park could lead to Ziersdorf becoming a central location for the Schmidatal.
