The constituency of Amstetten (constituency 1) is a constituency in Lower Austria that includes the political district of Amstetten and the city of Waidhofen an der Ybbs . In the state elections in 2013 , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) emerged as the strongest party with 53.5%. In addition to the ÖVP, which won two of the five possible basic mandates in the electoral district, the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) also achieved a basic mandate.

history

Lower Austria was divided into four constituencies until 1992, with the district of Amstetten and the town of Waidhofen an der Ybbs belonging to the district electoral district above the Vienna Woods . With the state election order in 1992, the number of constituencies was increased from four to 21, whereby the Lower Austrian legislature combined Amstetten and Waidhofen an der Ybbs to form the constituency of Amstetten.

Since the creation of the constituency, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) has achieved a relative majority in every state election in the Lower Austrian constituency of Amstetten, and between 2003 and 2013, in 2003 and 2008, the ÖVP even achieved an absolute majority. The ÖVP achieved its best result so far in the state elections in 2008 with 58.6%, and this year and in the state elections in 2003 it was able to combine three of the five basic mandates. In the last state election in 2013, the ÖVP in the constituency of Amstetten suffered a loss of around 5% and thus lost a basic mandate, but it was again able to achieve an absolute majority with 53.5%.

The Social Democratic Party of Lower Austria (SPÖ) took second place in every election in the constituency of Amstetten and achieved a basic mandate in each case. While it was still able to achieve between 27 and 30% in the first three elections, whereby it performed best with 30.3% in 2003, the SPÖ subsequently slipped down to 20.2% by 2013. This also meant the worst result so far. In general, the election results in the constituency of Amstetten were slightly below the results of the state for the SPÖ.

The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has not been able to achieve a basic mandate in any election in the constituency of Amstetten. It has come in third place three times in five state elections to date, and in 1998 it achieved its best result with 15.1%. As a result, however, in the course of the Peter Rosenstingl affair, it fell to 3.6% and ended up in fourth place behind the Greens. After the FPÖ was able to increase again to 10.1% in 2008, it fell back to fourth place in 2013 with 7.9%.

The Greens - The Green Alternative were able to increase almost successively between 1993 and 2013 from 4.9 to 7.6%, whereby in 2003 they were able to occupy 3rd place for a short time due to the weakness of the FPÖ. In 2013, however, the Greens fell back to fifth place when the Stronach team (FRANK and TS) competed, despite their own votes. The Stronach team, on the other hand, was able to achieve 9.0% straight away when they ran for the first time and thus advanced to third place among the candidate parties.
