The constituency of Korneuburg (constituency 8) is a constituency in Lower Austria that includes the political district of Korneuburg . In the state elections in 2013 , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) emerged as the strongest party with 51.1%, whereby the ÖVP was also the only one of the candidate parties to win one of the two basic mandates in the constituency.

history

Lower Austria was divided into four constituencies until 1992, with the Korneuburg district belonging to the district under the Manhartsberg . With the state election order of 1992, the number of constituencies was increased to 21 and the Korneuburg district was raised to its own constituency.

Since the creation of the constituency, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) has achieved a relative majority in every state election in the Korneuburg constituency, with the result of the People's Party fluctuating between 45 and 56%. The ÖVP achieved its best result so far in the state elections in 2008 with 56%, and in 2003 and 2013 it also achieved an absolute majority. In the last state election in 2013, the ÖVP achieved 51.1%. In contrast to the other candidate parties, the ÖVP thus achieved one of the two basic mandates in each election.

The Social Democratic Party of Lower Austria (SPÖ) took second place in every state election in the constituency, achieving its best result in 1993 with 31.1%. In 1998 and 2003 it reached 27.7 and 30.1% respectively. Since then, however, the SPÖ has lost 8 and 4% respectively in the 2008 and 2013 elections, bringing the SPÖ to only 18.1% in 2013. The SPÖ was thus also below the Lower Austrian provincial result.

The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was able to take third place in three of the five elections in the Korneuburg constituency, and in 1998 it achieved its best result with 16.4%. As a result, however, in the course of the Peter Rosenstingl affair, it fell to 4.8% and thus landed in fourth place behind the Greens in 2003. After the FPÖ was able to increase again to 10.8% in 2008, it fell back to fifth in 2013 with 8.0%.

The Greens - The Green Alternative were able to increase slowly but successively from 4.1 to 11.0% between 1993 and 2013, whereby they achieved third place once in 2003 due to the weakness of the FPÖ. After the Greens had been overtaken by the FPÖ again in 2008, the Greens again achieved third place in 2013. The Stronach team (FRANK or TS) achieved 10.1% straight away in 2013 when they first started and came in ahead of the FPÖ.
