The constituency of Gänserndorf (constituency 4) is a constituency in Lower Austria , which includes the political district of Gänserndorf . In the 2013 state elections , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) emerged as the strongest party with 46.80%, whereby the ÖVP was the only one of the candidate parties to win one of the three basic mandates.

history

Lower Austria was divided into four constituencies until 1992, with the Gänserndorf district belonging to the district under the Manhartsberg . With the state election regulations in 1992, the number of constituencies was increased to 21 and the Gänserndorf district was raised to its own constituency. After the creation of the constituency, the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) first achieved a relative majority in 1993 , and the ÖVP has been the strongest party in the constituency since 1998.

Since the creation of the constituency, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) has achieved a relative majority in every state election in the constituency of Gänserndorf, with one exception, with the result of the People's Party fluctuating between 40 and 48%. The ÖVP achieved its best result so far in the state elections in 2003 with 48.4%. In the last state election in 2013, the ÖVP achieved a similar figure at 46.8%. Thanks to their results, the ÖVP was able to obtain a basic mandate in every election in the Gänserndorf constituency.

The Social Democratic Party of Lower Austria (SPÖ) took first place in the state elections in 1993 with 41.0%. Since then, however, the SPÖ has only been the second strongest party behind the ÖVP in every election. After almost reaching its best value of 1993 with 39.6% in 2003, the SPÖ slipped in 2008 and 2013 with losses of 9% and 5% respectively to only 25.8%. Nevertheless, the SPÖ was slightly above the Lower Austrian provincial result in 2013.

The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has so far been able to take third place in three of the five elections in the Gänserndorf constituency. As a result, however, in the course of the Peter Rosenstingl affair, it fell to 4.6% and thus landed fourth behind the Greens in 2003. After the FPÖ was able to increase again to 12.1% in 2008, it fell back to fourth place in 2013 with 8.9%.

The Greens - The Green Alternative were able to increase slowly, but almost successively, from 2.8 to 6.2% between 1993 and 2013, whereby they were able to occupy 3rd place for a short time in 2003 due to the weakness of the FPÖ. In 2013, however, the Greens fell back to fifth place when the Stronach team (FRANK and TS) competed. The Stronach team, on the other hand, was able to achieve 10.7% right away when it ran for the first time and thus advanced to third place among the candidate parties.
