history
Lower Austria was divided into four constituencies until 1992, with today's constituency of Krems an der Donau partly belonging to the state electoral districts of Viertel above Manhartsberg and Viertel above Wienerwald . With the state election regulations in 1992, the number of constituencies was increased to 21 and the city of Krems and the district of Krems-Land were merged by the legislature into their own constituency.
Since the creation of the constituency, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) has achieved a relative majority in every state election in the constituency of Krems an der Donau, with the result of the People's Party fluctuating between 49.4 and 60.5%. The ÖVP achieved its best result so far in the state elections in 2008 with 60.5%. In the last state election in 2013, the ÖVP achieved 56.1%. The ÖVP has never been able to achieve an absolute majority since 1998, and it also achieved at least one basic mandate in every election. In the state elections in 2003 and 2008, she even won two of the three basic mandates.
The Social Democratic Party of Lower Austria (SPÖ) took second place in every state election in the constituency of Krems an der Donau, and in 1993 it achieved its best result to date with 27.6%. After the SPÖ had reached 24.5% or again just under 27.6% between 1998 and 2003, it dropped to 21.2% in 2008. She also lost 2% in the 2013 state elections, with 19.1%, her worst result in the constituency to date.
The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has been able to take third place in three of the five elections in the constituency of Krems an der Donau, and in 1998 it achieved its best result to date with 17.0%. As a result, however, in the course of the Peter Rosenstingl affair, it fell to 4.6% and in 2003 ended up in fourth place behind the Greens. After the FPÖ was able to increase again to 8.9% in 2008, its share of the vote fell again to 7.6% in 2013.
The Greens - The Green Alternative (GREEN) were able to increase slowly but gradually from 2.6 to 7.4% between 1993 and 2013. In 2013, however, the Greens fell back to fifth place when the Stronach team (FRANK and TS) competed. The Stronach team, on the other hand, was able to achieve 7.8% straight away when it ran for the first time in the constituency of Krems an der Donau and thus advanced to third place among the candidate parties.
