The Mödling constituency (constituency 13) is an electoral district in Lower Austria that includes the political district of Mödling . In the state elections in 2013 , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) emerged as the strongest party with 45.3%, whereby the ÖVP was the only one of the candidate parties to win two of the four basic mandates in the constituency.

history

Lower Austria was divided into four electoral districts until 1992, with the Mödling district belonging to the district of the district under the Vienna Woods . With the state election regulations in 1992, the number of constituencies was increased to 21 and the Mödling district raised to its own constituency.

Since the creation of the constituency, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) has achieved a relative majority in every state election in the Mödling constituency. The result of the ÖVP fluctuated relatively strongly between 39% and 52%. The ÖVP was able to achieve at least one of the four basic mandates in every state election in the constituency of Mödling, and since 2003 it has achieved two basic mandates in each constituency. The ÖVP achieved its best result in 2008 with 52.0%, and in the last state election in 2013 it achieved 45.3%. The ÖVP was able to gain an absolute majority of votes between 2003 and 2008.

The Social Democratic Party of Lower Austria (SPÖ) took second place in every state election in the constituency, and was able to achieve a basic mandate in the constituency up to and including the 2003 election. In 2003 the SPÖ achieved its best-ever election result in the electoral district with 28.7%, after which the SPÖ slipped with losses of 7% and 3% in 2013 to only 18.6%. Thus the SPÖ came to lie in the constituency below the Lower Austrian national average.

The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was able to take third place in only two of the five elections in the constituency of Mödling, and in 1998 it achieved its best result to date with 16.7%. As a result, however, in the course of the Peter Rosenstingl affair, it fell to 5.0% and ended up in fourth place behind the Greens in 2003. Despite the fact that the FPÖ was able to increase to 9.4% again in 2008, they stayed behind the Greens in fourth place, and in 2013 they even fell back to fifth place with 7.2%.

The Greens - The Green Alternative were able to increase slowly but gradually from 4.7 to 14.8% between 1993 and 2013, whereby in 2003 they benefited from the weakness of the FPÖ and were able to advance to third place for the first time in this election. In 2008 and 2013, the Greens were able to defend third place in contrast to many other constituencies. The Mödling constituency is the constituency in Lower Austria in which the Greens achieved their best result so far. The Stronach team was able to achieve 11.9% of the votes when they ran for the first time, which made them fourth among the candidate parties in 2013.
