Leopold von Arnim
Leopold Ferdinand Eduard Dietrich von Arnim (born October 28, 1794 in Minden ; † June 1, 1856 in Düsseldorf ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .
Life
origin
Leopold was a member of the von Arnim noble family from Uckermark . His parents were the Prussian major in the infantry regiment "von Schladen" and knight of the order Pour le Mérite , Hans Erdmann von Arnim (1756–1799) and Johanna Wartenberg. He himself remained unmarried and childless.
Career
Arnim had been a cadet in Berlin since June 1, 1806 . On October 28, 1811 he was portepee ensign in the Brandenburg Cuirassier Regiment (No. 6) . Arnim was promoted to Second Lieutenant on November 24, 1812 . He took part in the wars of liberation , in particular the battles near Großgörschen , where he was wounded, Bautzen , Leipzig and Paris , where he earned the Iron Cross II class. His promotion to Prime Lieutenant took place on October 5, 1816 and on May 21, 1824 he was Rittmeister and squadron chief in the 6th Cuirassier Regiment. Arnim was awarded the St. Anne's Order II. Class with a crown on June 8, 1838 , and on March 30, 1839, he was promoted to major and regular staff officer in the 7th Cuirassier Regiment . On October 18, 1845 he was entrusted with the leadership of the 1st Guard Uhlan (Landwehr) Regiment and received his confirmation as commander on May 15, 1846. Arnim rose on May 8, 1849 to lieutenant colonel and on January 18, 1851 to colonel . From April 15, 1852, Arnim was in command of the 14th Cavalry Brigade in Düsseldorf. He received the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 14, 1854 . Class with ribbon and advanced to major general on July 13, 1854 . Arnim received on June 1, 1856 his farewell to the character as a lieutenant general and board . He passed away the day he was released.
Arnim had been a Knight of the Order of St. John since 1847 . He was in his 44 years of service in the Prussian army continue with the St. Vladimir's Order and the Order of Saint Stanislaus excellent. Furthermore, he received the Order of Saint Anne in the second class with diamonds. He was also a knight of the Bavarian Order of Merit of St. Michael and the Service Award Cross .
General Adam von Tümpling judged Arnim in the function of his division commander in 1847: “An honest character, moral leadership, scientific education, practical understanding and thorough knowledge of service characterize him as advantageous. In the short time he was in command he has earned the respect of the officers' corps, leads the regiment with certainty, will keep it in good order and is a worthy commander in general. "
