action

The Teuffel family has settled in in Krummenwalde in Brandenburg for a number of years. After fleeing Berlin from the city , they are now followed by the economic crisis in the countryside. Jobs are being lost and more and more people are moving away. Son Kai works in the village pub for Mayor Gerd Jänicke and daughter Lisa finally wants to lose her innocence at 18. Meanwhile, Beate Teuffel is fighting to maintain the mineral spring, while Pastor Juchem's church needs a new roof. Despite all the mood of the crisis, Steffen Teuffel fulfilled his dream of having his own vineyard, which, however, turned into an absolute financial disaster after a massive pest infestation appeared on the vines. A gold thaler that the youngest daughter Sophie found in the lake could prove to be a salvation. The Teuffels hope that it is the ominous gold treasure that, according to the village chronicle, came from the Napoleonic occupation. Pastor Juchem is convinced that there should be more coins to be found in the lake. But the conservationist Lorenz Thiel could thwart their plans, because finds of art historical value are, according to him, the property of the country. So the three, Teuffel, Juchem and Jänicke try to keep their find a secret at all costs. Too bad that Thiel is an old student friend of Beate Teuffel, who "kept" him in the village for unnecessarily long. When he finally wants to leave, his car goes on strike and he has to involuntarily extend his stay in the village. The three treasure hunters believe they are undisturbed and continue their search in the lake. Thiel only seems to have eyes for Beate Teuffel and doesn't notice anything. Unexpectedly, however, the “gold fever” breaks out in the whole village and everyone tries to look for something valuable in the lake. Teuffel, Juchem and Jänicke find it hard to keep people from looking further. Shortly afterwards, Steffen Teuffel learns from his little daughter that she only found the coin in the lake because she threw it into it beforehand. She would actually have found it in a chest on the house floor. Teuffel is horrified because the chest contains his personal little coin collection. So there is no treasure. His son compensates him for this when he helps him rid the vineyard of the pests. Shortly afterwards, Kai tells his parents that he wants to go to France to study.

Even if there is no treasure in the lake, word of the discovery of the coin has spread beyond the village boundary and more and more tourists are coming. Teuffel, Juchem and Jänicke make a pact: Teuffel every now and then sacrifices a coin from his collection to keep the flow of tourists going. Unexpectedly, however, the treasure hunters find coins that do not come from Teuffel's collection. In the end, the church will get a new roof.

Prisma assessed: “As early as 2002, director Matthias Tiefenbacher [...] shot the light family comedy Liebling, bringing the chickens to bed with lots of weird guys and funny ideas. This equally fun sequel by Matthias Steurer followed in 2009. "
