Like Lovers Do ( English "How lovers do it") is a song by the German singer-songwriter Madeline Juno . The piece is the second single from her debut album The Unknown and part of the soundtrack for the US disaster film Pompeii , as well as in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 .
Creation and artwork
The song was written by Madeline Juno and Dave Roth. The single was mixed, produced and programmed by Patrick Benzner and Roth. The mastering took place under the direction of Götz-Michael Rieth. The piece was recorded by Benzer (guitar), Steve Cooper (piano), Lars Ehrhardt (guitar), Juno (vocals) and Roth (vocals, guitar and piano). The single was released under the Polydor music label and distributed through Emma S Park Music and Sony / ATV Music Publishing . On the black and white cover of the maxi single you can see - in addition to the artist name and song title - Juno's upper body, with a daisy on each shoulder. Juno first presented the cover image on January 17, 2014 on Facebook .
Publication and promotion
The first release of Like Lovers Do on February 28 2014 single download. Just one month earlier, on 23 January 2014 published Juno a teaser of the song in the online community of SoundCloud and finally a first music video (Pompeii version) on February 14, 2014.
On March 13, 2014 Juno competed with the piece in the German preliminary decision Our Song for Denmark for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, but had to admit defeat to fellow campaigners MarieMarie , Santiano and Unheilig after the first round . From February to March 2014 Like Lovers Do was heard in various commercial breaks from VOX , in a commercial in which the show highlights for the month of March were presented. The piece was also part of the soundtrack for the German-Canadian disaster film Pompeii .

The lyrics to Like Lovers Do are in English; Translated into German, the title means "How lovers do it". Both the music and the lyrics were written jointly by Madeline Juno and Dave Roth. Musically, the song moves in the area of pop music . Patrick Benzner and Lars Ehrhardt on guitar and Dave Roth on guitar and keyboard instruments were hired as instrumentalists . In addition to the main vocals of Juno, the voice of Roth can be heard in the background.
In an interview, Juno stated that this was her favorite track from her album The Unknown . She wrote it shortly before the album was finished in November 2013. Like Lovers Do is supposed to represent a kind of new beginning and is therefore not as gloomy as the previous single Error . The content of the song deals with the hope of finding a new love.

Music video
A first music video for Like Lovers Do was shot on January 29, 2014 in the Semperoper in Dresden and celebrated its premiere on February 14, 2014. This video is a special version of the film Pompeii . The video can be divided into two sections. On the one hand, Juno can be seen in a black dress, moving through the Semper Opera House and singing her song. On the other hand, film clips from Pompeii can be seen again and again . The total length of the video is 3:11 minutes.
The official music video for Like Lovers Do was also shot on January 29, 2014 in Dresden and celebrated its premiere on March 5, 2014. You can see Juno, who wakes up in bed next to her boyfriend in the morning. She gets out of bed, gets dressed and leaves the apartment while her boyfriend continues to sleep. Juno walks through Dresden and thinks about their current relationship. At a certain point she realizes that a breakup is not the right thing to do and she runs back to her boyfriend, who has woken up in the meantime and wants to go in search of Juno. In the end, they both meet in front of the door of the apartment and look at each other. The total length of the video is 3:11 minutes.
Both music videos were directed and produced by Carina Steinmetz. To date, both music videos have over 1.1 million views on YouTube (as of March 2017).

Reviews
The German-language online magazine laut.de rated the album The Unknown with 3/5 stars. David Maurer is of the opinion that the “dashing battle drums” in Like Lovers Do come to the fore and, together with the choirs in the chorus, would provide an almost “monumental sound”. For this reason, the title cuts a fine figure as a soundtrack for Pompeii .

Like Lovers Do reached position 96 in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for a total of two weeks. For Juno it is the second chart success in Germany as an author and interpreter after Error .
