LisaGay Hamilton (born March 25, 1964 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress .

Life

Hamilton graduated from New York University with a degree in theater arts , then studied acting at the Juilliard School . She made her debut in the 1985 drama Krush Groove . In the comedy Naked in New York (1993) she starred opposite Eric Stoltz , Mary-Louise Parker , Tony Curtis , Timothy Dalton , Kathleen Turner , Whoopi Goldberg and Calista Flockhart .

From 1997 to 2003, Hamilton played the role of Rebecca Washington in the television series Practice - The Lawyers . For this role she was - along with a few other actors - nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award in 1999, 2000 and 2001 . She was also nominated for the Image Award in 2000. For her role in the thriller A True Crime (1999), in which she played a larger role alongside Clint Eastwood , she was nominated for the Black Reel Award and the Image Award in 2000.

In the drama Nine Lives (2005), Hamilton starred alongside Kathy Baker , Glenn Close , Holly Hunter , Jason Isaacs , Aidan Quinn and Sissy Spacek . As a member of the acting ensemble, she was nominated for the Gotham Award in 2005.

Hamilton directed the 2003 documentary Beah: A Black Woman Speaks . For this work, she won an AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival award in 2003 and was nominated in two categories for the Black Reel Award in 2005.
