The list of wells in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick is a detailed overview of the wells in the public space of the district of Treptow-Köpenick . Wells that are out of order or no longer available are also included, but not simple hand pumps.

The list contains 16 objects and is based on the Internet presentation of the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing about the public fountains in Treptow-Köpenick (15 systems are listed here, as of August 2018), and on other sources.

overview

In Treptow-Köpenick, 15 fountains enliven the public spaces and green spaces. According to the Senate, there are a total of 270 functioning ornamental fountains and sea fountains in Berlin, the maintenance of which was taken over by Berliner Wasserbetriebe from 2017 onwards.

A stepped, perforated concrete wall and a railing made of stainless steel pipe delimit the fountain basin on one long side. At the other edges of the pool, tubular stainless steel railings and benches with wooden paneling are also loosely arranged. The real eye-catcher of this fountain system, however, are the two "water curtains" - two frames made of stainless steel tubing of different widths, but of the same height, placed in the water at a corner. At their upper edges, water trickles from 34 or 48 nozzles in thin jets and, together with the borders, forms two transparent surfaces, similar to glittering curtains in the sunshine.

A large ball made of polished granite lies between four vertically positioned roughly shod granite supports. Due to the water pressure of the water pipe below the ball, the ball is lifted slightly and rotates on the water film. An adjoining rubble bed and benches set up all around under pergolas harmoniously complete the overall appearance of the square, which is designed with small stone paving.

Fountain Arndtplatz (Adler) Little Elephants & Achim Kühn & 19952.jpg

A modern and unusual fountain adorns the central island of Arndtplatz, which invites you to relax. The well-kept green space at the roundabout is in a quiet residential area. The artist wanted to place an imaginative fountain sculpture in this tranquility and underline the intimacy. Two abstract elephants face each other within a paved hollow. When the water gushes up from their extra-long "trunks", which are looped around the body in a ring, a soft splash fills the room.

Berlin-Adlershof Dörpfeldstrasse Marktbrunnen.jpg

A simple rectangular fountain basin rests on a rectangular pedestal. At the edge of the rear long side there is a pylon with a lion's head as a gargoyle inside the basin. Four decoratively designed wrought iron rods protrude from the base of the pillar tower, which are bent over the front edge of the pool and form a grate. Instead of the lion's head, an eagle was actually supposed to be attached, but cast lion heads were just cheap to buy.

A bronze animal sculpture in the form of a wolf and a crane - based on Aesop's fable "The Wolf and the Crane" - rests on a plinth made of red brick.

Looking for help, the wolf sits in front of the standing crane and grasps its legs with its front paws. A thin stream of water flows from the crane's beak, which protrudes deep into the wide open wolf's jaws.

Four simple square fountain basins are arranged in a slightly arched manner next to each other at a distance of eight meters and harmoniously integrated into a long flower bed. A small central fountain gushes up in each of the water basins. The sufficiently wide pool edge invites you to pause.

An approximately ten meter high central fountain is installed in the middle of a rimless, trough-shaped fountain basin set in at ground level to the lawn. Eight fountains about half as high and eighteen other low fountains are grouped concentrically around the high fountain. The arched water jets are directed towards the center.

The fountain is particularly popular with young children. The pool, which slopes gently towards the middle, with water that is knee-deep at most, is often used as a "splash" in summer temperatures.

Located between the street and the building, surrounded by benches and green spaces, three abstractly modeled and partially colored heads (faces) protrude from the shallow water from a fountain basin - one of them in an upright position and two in a lying position. Water gushes out of the mouth and ears. The floor of the rectangular fountain basin with rounded corners was made of paving stones. The water surface is bordered by granite blocks similar to curbs.

Several benches, a fountain system with eight bubblers over a grating and a large fountain basin were integrated into the platform-like base made of yellow clinker brick. In the fountain basin there is an approximately 3.50 meter high tower, also made of yellow clinker brick, with a rectangular floor plan, from which water trickles down over the top edge and breaks on the protruding intermediate plates.

On the edge of a paved hexagonal, trough-shaped basin rests a well with a plinth sloping forward . On it crouches - bent forward between the knees - a rustic female figure wrestling laundry. The "escaping water" first falls over the plinth into a massive trough in front of it, which is also sloping towards the front and rests on a hexagonal base, before it flows from there via a channel into the trough.

Somewhat hidden - on the edge of the high-rise buildings - you will find a green oasis for relaxation.

Right next to a pine grove and a small forest tavern, a hexagonal fountain basin was designed in which three differently arranged, abstract wooden sculptures made from tree trunks stand. They are attached to metal pipes and grouped around three low bubbling fountains in the center of the pool. In the six corners on the edge of the pool, very small fountains complete the picture.

Mh 3 fountains (red, yellow and gray limestone) Müggelheim cemetery, Gosener Landstrasse 1

Graphic photo wanted.jpg

The listed cemetery complex, which was built in 1956/1957, has three fountains - a trapezoidal one made of red, a round one made of yellow and a hexagonal one made of gray limestone.

Originally, the water in all three systems ran into the pools in fine jets from nozzles all day. The resulting high operating costs made it necessary to switch off the water supply years ago.

Only through extensive renovation of the basins and retrofitting of the wells to scooping systems - as is otherwise common in cemeteries - a restart could make sense.

In front of the entrance to the FEZ in the middle of a paddling pool (approx. 30 m diameter) stands the fountain flower with the 480 large and small stainless steel leaves on a round fountain bowl. A fountain rises on the flower, from which the water runs over the fountain bowl into the paddling pool. After much damage, the well was shut down in 2013 and, after six years of inactivity, it was put back into operation on September 18, 2019. Around half of the renovation costs of 100,000 euros were raised by donors in a crowdfunding campaign.

In the center of a square fountain basin, four metal pipes of different heights each carry a structured metal bowl of different diameter. A very shallow mushroom-shaped fountain gushes in each metal bowl, while the water falls over the openwork rim into the basin - similar to flowers on which rainwater runs down. In 2009 the well system was protected by the construction of an enclosure.

A larger-than-life male nude figure stands on a granite base in front of the round arch at the front of an otherwise rectangular pool. Leaning forward, the athletically built fisherman pulls up a net. A multi-jet fountain is installed in the upstream water basin.

The well system is closed (as of 2018). - In January 2020, three workshops were held with residents of the Kosmosviertel , which should lead to a total redesign of the green corridor . It remains to be seen whether it was or will be a matter of restarting the cascades. After planning by a landscape architecture office, which has yet to be completed, the work should be completed in 2023 Template: future / in 3 years.

The drinking fountains of the water company

Charlottenburg Kurfürstendamm 225 drinking fountain type 2

The municipal supplier, Berliner Wasserbetriebe , has developed two types of drinking fountains and installed them in public places, preferably in heavily frequented areas, throughout Berlin's urban area. At the end of 2016, a map showed 32 installation locations. The free and touchless refreshment directly from the water pipe is popular with strollers, shoppers and tourists. Even dogs can find refreshment in the drainage area. The wells installed on the streets and squares are only operated between May and October due to the risk of frost.

Type 1: The small one-meter-high pillars with a diameter of about 40 centimeters, cast from bronze , show five reliefs on top of each other on topics of the history of Berlin in their lower part . The designs come from the designer Siegfried Kaiser, the first models were created in 1985. The water bowl is shaped like a basket and covered with a grid. A small jet of water constantly rises from a brass ball on the side. Technical measures inside the column guarantee the best drinking water quality.

Type 2: The 105 centimeter high pillars, cast from aluminum , are visually subdivided into five equally high segments by cross markings and have a slightly oval cross-section, the design comes from the Berlin designer Marcus Botsch. On one side of the upper edge is a flat bowl with a diameter of 50 centimeters, from the center of which a fine jet of water also rises steadily. This type, also known as the Berlin drinking fountain, has no ornaments, but looks extremely elegant and is also suitable for installation in the interior of larger companies.
